I need to ask again about RP requirements, as I'm still confused on these rules. I only have two actual relievers, but technically starting pitchers Ruess, Horton, and Proly can relieve. Do I have to use these 3 as relievers? Since my roster size is at 28, that would mean I'd be stuck with a horrific Relief staff all season.

If I understand the rules, we are playing a standard 80s league rules with DH. You can keep as little as 23 players on your roster, but 10 of them have to be pitchers--5 who can start and 5 who can relieve. Your starters can be SP only or SP/R. I can't remember how many pure relievers you have to have. I'll look it up.

It let me fill out a roster with only 2 true relievers.

From earlier post:

"Not exactly, because the 80s AutoDraft calls for only 10P, but you have to have at least 5 RP but not necessarily any "pure" RP. And once the season begins you can drop to 23 players minimum, not 24 like the other sets."

The rules say you have to have at least 10 pitchers, you could have all 10 SP/R and thus have 5 who can start and 5 who can relieve.

I see that we are now up to Round 4. I figure that the Mariners will pick first, but I haven't figured out the rest. I'm busy most of today, so I might not get to it til tomorrow, but if anyone else wants to look at the rules and put out a draft list, please go ahead.

Mariners are still offering Dave Stieb.

The 80s Theme standard roster rules are a little different than all the others. Once season starts, you may have as little as 10 pitchers on you roster and as many as 12, 5 of whom are capable of starting, SP or SP/R, and 5 of whom are capable of relieving, R or SP/R. No requirement for pure relievers only. You can carry as few as 13 hitters or as many as 17. The minimum roster size during the season is 23, of which 10 have to be pitchers. The max roster size is 28 players during the season.

Once the season starts, you will only have access to the players from your original team roster on the first page of this post and the other players you picked up during these draft rounds. That is why the commish made it so everyone would end up with 28 players available to them. You can start the season with 23 players on your active roster and the other 5 players will be your inactive players that you can bring up or swap out with a player on your active roster when you want or you can start the season with all 28 players active as long as you are under the 80 mil cap for the Active roster.

The only way you can acquire different players than the 28 active and inactive players you started the season with is to facilitate a trade.

At least this is how I understand it.

My question still hasn't been directly answered. I'd like to know because I'm going to have to make some trades if SP/RP's count as true relievers.

That is why the commish made it so everyone would end up with 28 players available to them. You can start the season with 23 players on your active roster and the other 5 players will be your inactive players that you can bring up or swap out with a player...

I believe 28 players is your minimum not the max. The Dodgers have 30+.

OK, so each team has access to at least 28 players.

I don't understand your question then about relievers? S/R pitchers count as a starter and reliever. You have to carry 10 pitchers on your staff, at least 5 who are able to start and 5 who are able to relieve. If you have 10 pitchers who are S/R pitchers then you have 10 who can start and 10 who can relieve. There is no requirement to have just a R only pitcher on your staff in the 80s roster rules.
