I am new to this but I do have a question how can the mets who had 33 players on their roster trade 2 of them for a 4th rd draft pick

It's a legal trade because it is like saying "Mets trade 2 players for 1 Padre" In other words, you can imagine the trade taking place just after the Padres take their 4th Rd pick. No one gets an extra draft pick.
