Need to firm up parameters as I built a team based on 3 or 4 at each position but may be better at other positions and also catcher and outfield ratings of +1

After further review.............

I LOVE defensive themed leagues, but I retract my previous statement.........I like the idea of PLUS arms at catcher and 3's and 4's in the infield, HOWEVER, As I'ved looked over the ATG set again, the outfield would be a MESS.

The BEST hitters in the outfield either are 1's and 2's with -1, 0 or +1 arms or 3's with MINUS arms.

Everyone is going to be fighting over the SAME 2 or 3 CFers, 2 or 3 LFers and NO RFers, since I can't find a GREAT RFer with a PLUS arm.

It will be a nightmare policing teams to make sure they are playing Musial in CF and not in LF, RF or 1b where he is a 2....or if there is an injury HAL could always move Musial to a corner spot also.....he's done CRAZIER defensive moves late in the game.....so PLEASE don't make a change from +1 to ZERO arms since it won't make the difference I thought (I was wrongfully considering that Averill and Turkey could be played as ZERO arms, but they are 1's).

I think you are going to have 9 ANGRY owners AFTER the draft that won't be able to compete with the 2 or 3 LUCKY owners that scooped the few VALUABLE oufielders and catchers. In other words I think you'll KNOW all of the divisional winners BEFORE opening day.

Like I said I LOVE defensive themed leagues, but this one is a BIT extreme considering the $120M cap.

upon further review I have to agree with Nomad. Perhaps that is why there is trouble getting the league to fill.

I'm open for any suggestions to make this more fair. I'm not married to any idea.

So what would work?
- Lowering the cap so that by taking a Piazza or Arky Vaughn would limit $$$ at other positions?
- Raising the cap so that everyone has an opportunity to get great hitters?
- 4 starters need to be $9M or greater? That would also cut into hitter dollars.
- Require that no player may have range less than 3 on their card at any position

I'm not as experienced as others on the implications of the current league settings and how that would play out in terms of fairness, so I'm happy to open it up for discussion. I just want to play.

As I stated in earlier posts, I like the idea of digging deep for less used players. My hope is that for every Frank Thomas or Arky Vaughn there are 5 or 6 Hans Lobarts or Brian Downings that don't usually get considered because their defense is so bad. Maybe by lowering the cap this would be more likely.

BTW, Brad is correct about RFs. Slim pickings for a good RF that has a + arm over $6M. Not horrible, but slim.

The high cap was a concern for me as well. Like others have stated, I see a lack of quality OF's needed for such a high salary cap.
I will build a team as soon as we agree on the parameters. I have the password.

I have done a number of Catcher leagues, in fact started another (not intended to compete with this one)....Also did "ONE is the LONELIEST number" 2 different times where no 1's were allowed on player cards, i.e. Couldn't use Hank Aaron in CF as a 2 since his card wasn't allowed since it was a "1" in RF....did another league where owners were ONLY allowed ONE outfielder that had a MINUS arm, all other arms had to be +1 or worse (but could still be 1's.......but I've never tried to do everything you are doing.......the caps of those leagues were all between $115 and $125M and were quite successful......I would recommend keeping your league "AS-IS" but lowering the cap to $105 and requiring everyone to have AT LEAST 3 SPs over $8M.....that would give flexibility to 5 man rotations and allowing some owners to spend a LOT on pitching while allowing others to spend as little as $32M or so on pitching spending $70M on hitting if they get LUCKY on getting their offensive guys.

I didn't mean to disparage your league, AGAIN, I love these types of leagues....I was just sharing some of my insights since I had done similar themes at similar caps and not sure your aggressive limits would work for 12 teams at such a high cap.

Here's a thought - although it might be much more difficult to monitor. The sum of your OF range must be +9 or higher. The sum of of OF arms must be +6 or higher.

If you want a 1 in CF that means you must have a 4 in LF and RF. If you play a 0 arm in RF then you must have a +3 in both CF and LF or a +2 in CF and +4 in LF (or some variation).

Again, open to hammering out the details.

This would make things easier and more flexible, but would definitely be more difficult to monitor.

No offense taken. I just want to play. :D

Let's hear from everyone else about these rule changes:
$100M League with DH. 3 SP must be $8M or more. No defense better than a 3 and no arms, C or OF, better than +1. This includes bench players.

I'll set it up as soon as I get agreement from everyone.

Actually I like the $120 million cap as it enables guys to balance out a bad draft with brute power or pitching. Still havent addressed lack of quality outfielders with +1 arms. Perhaps a total outfield arm rule would work. 3 high cost pitchers instead of 4 is fine.
