This idea up during the draft in the AL League that I run just like this. If a player you own gets hurt and misses most of the year and thus doesn't get a card that you should be able to keep him.
If we did this we would just play with one less (or up to 3 slots down). So for example, I would have been able to keep Yu Darvish but I would have only been able to have 26 active players/cards on my roster. By SOM rules, we have to have 24 players/cards on our team so I guess we could keep up to 3 injured players on our team. To fill out that final draft slot I would say to just draft some .50 guy from the AL and then cut him before the season started and play with 24 players.
If during the season you wanted to cut someone you had thought about keeping on injured reserve I would say to announce/post that in the ILC as well as a league email and you could pick up someone from the FA pool if you felt that was a better move for your team.
So let's hold a vote on this point in the ILC.
