Re: Franchise/Mystery League - #2 MFL536 load your Braves

Managers we are set, MFL536 is taking the Braves. Since that was team we expected to be in season #2 I don't anticipate any of the managers needing to tweak anything so MFL536...load your Braves.

Again any questions let me know, I'll monitor the forums to help expedite as needed.

Re: Franchise/Mystery League - #2 Play Ball!

Here's the note from our league email...

Before we post season 3 keepers I'd like to introduce two wrinkles into our format. I wanted to include them in the original specs but didn't want to complicate things too much out of the gate.

1) Expanding the player pool to include players from franchises not in our league that played for teams in our league but don't have cards for those teams. For example: Leon Wagner, carded for the Angels and Indians but also played for the Giants, Cards and White Sox. Those teams can auto draft or pick him up. I'll publish a list of eligible players.

2) You can't draft/keep players for more years than they are carded to your franchise. Example: I have to release/or trade Ron Hansen as he has two BAL yrs on his card but also two White Sox and one Senator AND he's been on my roster for two seasons. This only applies to players that are carded to other teams in our league. Example 2: Joe Adcock, he can stay with the Braves with one carded yr since the other two franchises on his card are the Angels and Indians.

Note about the part about draft/keep. If the other teams in our league don't auto draft the player you can pick them up in waivers. So if Hansen isn't taken by the White Sox or Senators I can put him back on my roster.

I'll post these suggested changes on our forum string, I'm not going to mandate them but I do hope you guys will allow this little shake up, I think it will help mirror some of the actual player movement.

FYI - I didn't want there to be any bias in this proposal so I have purposefully not reviewed each franchise to see the specific team impacts of my suggestion and in a few cases we might decide to create an exception (maybe for Catchers and RP if these rules will create less than need to be available).

I'd like all of your opinions on these proposals before I publish the list of additional players available.

Tks

I am okay with whatever the other owners and you decide but my preference is to be able to keep players past the number of years they were with your franchise (against the 2nd change). Do not know how this change would impact my franchise but it seems like too much work to be certain your team and the other teams are in compliance.

I have no problem at all with the first suggestion about allowing extra players for each franchise. However I'm sorry to rock the boat, but I'm very opposed to the Hanson Proposal for a few reasons:
1) The distribution of available seasons in the 60s set often in no way reflects the actual distribution of a player's career. An example is Ray Culp, who played 6 seasons for Boston (where he had most of his success), 4 for the Phillies and 1 for the Cubs. In SOM he's got 2 Red Sox seasons, 2 Phillies seasons, and his Cubs' year.
2) Because of the risk of potentially losing non-core players if they aren't on your roster at game 141, I've made a point of carrying extra players above the 24 minimum to ensure that I didn't lose them. Again refer to Culp, who was brutal for me this year but I kept him around to protect my rights to him.
3) There's no allowance for the quality of the season a player gave you, or the length of his service. Gary Bell pitched very well for me this year, but in season 1 had an ERA of almost 11 in 28.2 IP, which means I've burned his two years.

That's my 2 cents worth. And having said that, this has been a lot of fun in just the 2 seasons we've played, so I'm back in no matter how this goes, (whether you like it or not!)

Thanks for the feedback so far!

Falcon - regarding Gary Bell. Since his other 3 carded years are to the Indians (not in our league) the 2 season rule wouldn't apply to him. He can stink for you every season if you want.

Sorry if that wasn't clear

I was just using Ding-Dong Bell as an example. The point I was trying to make was that a crappy year where you can't dump a guy fast enough would burn a year of eligibility.
