Personally, I went back and forth on this topic a few times and landed at this number in the interest of letting the "later franchise picks" who are presumably teams with less history and therefore a shallower player pool have an equalizer. That being said, I had already built in an equalizer with the supplementary draft and given how many great players are likely to be available in free agency (and the fact that you can have up to 5 FA's), I probably went too far.

Bottom line: I'm also now, in hindsight, in favor of a cap of $120 million AND I leave it up to the masses to decide if they would like to raise it.

My only concern would be for the teams that have already been selected - would your draft pick have changed given this knowledge?

I'd like to hear from others on the matter!

Bernie's point is a good one; I have no problem in raising the cap, but also have no issue with keeping it and forcing all of us to find alternatives to the monster cards we all like to use in higher caps. Maybe this is a chance to have players like Harvey Haddix and Al Oliver among your starters ?

I certainly understand the thought process behind the $100 mil cap and the desire not to change the rules as we go along.

On the other hand, I've been in many franchise leagues and the better ones show some rule flexibility after getting input from league members.

While I can't speak for those who have already selected franchises, I note that those franchises selected thus far are talent rich and my guess is that the managers will not want to re-pick if the cap is raised to $120 mil. Besides, having up to 5 free agent picks is VERY forgiving.

My vote is to raise the cap to $120 mil and also, consistent with other voters, I agree that picking a free agent should permit the manager to use any card of the free agent.

P.S.: If the cap goes to $120 mil, I'm willing to trade down to the end of the draft. Any takers?

OK - re: cap. I have checked with four others in the league, gator39, royal_boston, freebase (who just selected another "talent rich" franchise), and Riggs10. I await their reply but I suspect they will be in favor as well.

Also, BD - if you were serious about trading down, Riggs10 would likely take you up on that!

Anyhow, if they are all in favor then we're looking at a minimum of 8 votes for so far.

120 is fine with me.

One of the quirks I didn't think about is the reliever pool. RP typically play for many teams, so it's a roll of the dice whether they qualify for your squad. On the Red Sox, the two primary hard lefty relievers, Sambito and Hassler, are both ineligible for my squad, so it's time to start scouting potential free agents.
