I'm on the prewar committee with Bruce and Andy, and agree with all their suggestions. My only addition would be Mickey Vernon's first batting title. He'd be bulletproof and a 1 fielder. But he could also be added, along with Buddy Lewis, to the Washington Senators category, greatly helping a franchise that is almost never chosen.

Vernon's best year was 1946 (.353, .403. 508, with 8HR and 14 SB. (can't trust my memory the way I used to).

And thanks to Rosie for setting the record straight on who he is. Having joined a couple of leagues that he has organized, I can vouch for both his dedication and creativity.

Great choices recently posted. Need to keep it up with filling holes on teams across ALL ERA's and completing teams with very limited players. Personally it really is simple. Only if SOM just listens to what we want and need.

Colorado Rockies Choices:
Andres Galarraga 1993 or 1996
Eric Young 1996
Vinny Castilla 1998
Dante Bichette 1995
Matt Holliday 2007
Carlos Gonzalez 2010
Ubaldo Jimenez 2010
Manny Corpas 2007
Brian Fuentes 2008
Steve Reed 1995
Marvin Freeman 1994
Curt Leskanic 1995
Juan Pierre 2001
Dexter Fowler 2012
Willy Taveras 2007
Darryl Hamition 1999
Jeff Cirillo 2000

I forgot about Vernon. I meant to include him too!

Looks like some excellent prewar choices!

Yeah, I was thinking Vernon as Post-War, but that season Tom wants is 1946, the last season in the Pre-War grouping. (Even though WWII was over in 1945; why quibble over history  )

I REALLY feel like each set of card additions should be more focused. A Pre-War addition one month; a couple months later only Players with No current Card in the set; a couple months later EXP cards only; a couple months later add maybe 3 complete teams from different eras, etc.

My reasoning: Most Pre-War cards don't have a chance in a community-wide vote; a good majority of the votes seem to go to the 2000 and up recent cards.

Given how often our buddy Garcia adds new cards, one could be waiting a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time for something like that Andy.

We are adding 50 cards. There are 4 eras and a lot of individual teams. If we added the top 8 vote getting cards per era guaranteed, with 18 floaters, that should help with the problem me thinks. Everybody gets a slice of the pie that way.

One might note that I didn't nominate a single pre-war pitcher. I am VERY interested in pre-war hitters that we lack but prefer expansion era pitchers with either lots of strikeouts and/or gba's on their cards.

Lefty Grove was by far the best pitcher from 1920 until Pedro Martinez. His era+ and win pct suggest he is one of the top three pitchers ever. Yet his cards all suck. If he can't get a good card, don't really care so much about the other pitchers from that era. Don't have a problem supporting their nomination, just have no desire to unearth any finds from that period.

And I don't understand that. With the offensive explosion of the 1930's, the fact that Grove produced as he did seems that it should result in an amazing pitching card, yet it doesn't.

I trust everyone had a nice 4th! After my holiday weekend of 5 baseball games (at 49 that's a lot), too much beer and a strained hamstring going 1st to 3rd I'm back...I'm sure many of you were holding your breath in anticipation of my return.

I'm reviewing the posts and will attempt to address the outstanding questions, suggestions and well, accusations best I can. LOL

Cheers
Rosie
