I confirm the trade.

Do you think that Ray's penalty points should stand for the new owner, or should they be lessened/removed?

1) They should remain at 5 for season 1
2) They should be lessened/removed

If you vote 2, would you prefer:

a) they should be removed completely
b) season 2's penalties should be doubled
c) The penalty should be reduced to 2-3 for season 1

Feel free to add another choice if you think of something.

for my part, I vote 2 and I like the B choice.

I still think Chip Kelly should be penalized somehow someway.

I will cast a vote soon. I've just been really going back n forth with this. On one hand we show cracks & a weakness as a league for not enforcing the penalties incurred on our new owner because it shows you can go for, pitch over the limits (by multiple times) all in an effort to win (which is borderline cheating) then quit. Of course we now know Ray didn't do that at all even as it was perceived he did.

On the other hand I hate welcoming in Ted's friend saying "welcome to our league, glad to have you & sorry but your team is incurring 5 extra (mandatory cuts) at FA draft time due to the previous owner's transgressions.

the one thing that's true thru all this is that the new owner does get to make those picks to fill his roster at the end of the draft.

Just airing my thoughts in hopes of (by writing this out) of enlightening myself to cast a vote. I must say this is a very unique situation.

I completely understand wanting to keep the penalties. Obviously, any actions taken by a previous owner are bound to a new owner. The reasons I voted to lessen the penalties were:

1) Ray obviously accrued these penalties by not managing his team. Had he been making a run, and actively not caring about the penalties, he would have had a couple of extra hitters on his roster, or at least reacted to injuries.

2) While he undoubtedly gained some advantage pitching Eickhoff's 4.76 card over his multitude of other options, by not matching up with his opponents, Eickhoff had a terrible season, since he pitched against teams who had tons of lefties. He went 9-17 with a 5.62 ERA. Some of this is obviously due to luck, but by playing matchups better, he could have accrued less penalties and more wins.

I totally get it if you think the penalties should stick. That's why I proposed a vote. Here are the current tallies:

The question I pose is that if we change this rule are we hurting the people that followed the rule?


The rule is that the team receives penalty points for pitchers exceeding IP Limits.

There should be no question that by our rules the new guy should receive the penalty points just like Ray would have if he did not leave.

I don't find the rule fair to Eugin, but I assume he agreed to take Ray's team given that he may receive the penalty.

I don't want to welcome the new guy to the league with a penalty forced on him, so it would be nice to change the rule for him, but I don't want to penalize everyone that followed the rule.

So I voted not to upset the rest of the league, by keeping the penalty on Ray's team.

If the rest of the league votes to remove the penalty on Ray's team, then I guess they were not upset that they followed the rules last season.

Whatever the result of the vote, I will be happy with the outcome.
