I completely understand wanting to keep the penalties. Obviously, any actions taken by a previous owner are bound to a new owner. The reasons I voted to lessen the penalties were:
1) Ray obviously accrued these penalties by not managing his team. Had he been making a run, and actively not caring about the penalties, he would have had a couple of extra hitters on his roster, or at least reacted to injuries.
2) While he undoubtedly gained some advantage pitching Eickhoff's 4.76 card over his multitude of other options, by not matching up with his opponents, Eickhoff had a terrible season, since he pitched against teams who had tons of lefties. He went 9-17 with a 5.62 ERA. Some of this is obviously due to luck, but by playing matchups better, he could have accrued less penalties and more wins.
I totally get it if you think the penalties should stick. That's why I proposed a vote. Here are the current tallies:
