Definitive proof that the DH can be moved into the field even when there are available options on the bench.
Game 1 of the series, Three Finger is the opposing pitcher, Frank Thomas is the DH and Pujols is at 1st. Pujols takes a 3 game injury, and Elston Howard moves in (why him HAL???) rather than moving Jack Clark in and putting in a new right fielder.

Game 2. Kevin Brown is the opposing pitcher. Thomas moves to 1st, Canseco comes in as the DH.

But you say, "Kevin Brown is a reverse righty, and how do we know that Thomas was not set as the 1st baseman against reverse righties?" Well correct you are, so I present game 3. Bob Gibson is the opposing starter, so it should be the same lineup as game 1 of the series, only with a sub in for Pujols. But again, Thomas is at 1st, but now Strawberry has moved into the DH role.

I always list Thomas as the backup 1st baseman on the odd chance that this will happen, and there it did. Even with Jack Clark playing in the field, and Elston Howard sitting on the bench, Frank Thomas moved from DH into the field. Pujols sits out the 1st game tonight, so it will be interesting to see how the lineup shakes out.
