"-NEW FOR THIS SEASON!!! - Any players that are free agents (don't have a carded franchise in our league) are available to those franchises that they played with from 1970 - 1979 (maybe 80). So for example if an owner takes the Brewers and the Athletics aren't taken, then Sal Bando, who's 70's card is 5 yrs of A's is available to the Brew Crew since he actually played for them from 77-81. The player list below DOES NOT represent this Free Agency clause...mostly because its a lot of work to look up for every effected player. But once we have our 12 teams it becomes a bit easier. One caveat to this FA clause, if a guy qualifies for your franchise based on the above guidelines, but his season(s) are nowhere close to representing how he played for that franchise then he will not be available. Tommie Agee is a good example, played the last yr of his career for the Cardinals but it was a throw away."
I understand everything (I think), including the comment about the "nowhere close to representing how he played" comment. I have 3 follow-up questions:
1. You say "maybe [19]80". Is 1980 in, or out?
2. Rosie how should we address the "throw away year" comment, practically speaking? Should we seek pre-clearance on the boards here? (pro - everyone can see it. con - everyone can see it, and see who you might want to pick). Or should we PM you to ask, so that we can ask privately? (disadvantage - You might be asked several times about the same player by multiple owners. Advantage - at least it doesn't give away who we might pick).
3. Assuming that the player is available to my team under this rule, can I autodraft him? Or must I wait to pick him on waivers? It seems logical to me that if he is available, he could be autodrafted, since he would not have *any* card years carded to any of the franchises in our league.
Thanks Rosie! Already loving this league - great concept!!!
