Thanks for moving this along, guys. As we pick, let's keep the whole list of teams up. If you select the hitters from a franchise, add "pitchers" to that franchise, so we know only the pitchers are left from that franchise. Once both hitters and pitchers are selected from a franchise, then delete them from the list. So, after Mike's pick, the list looks like this:

FRANCHISE LIST:
Yankees pre WWII Pitchers
Yankees post WWII
Red Sox
Cubs
White Sox
Tigers
Braves
Reds
Indians
As
Phillies
Giants
Pirates
Cardinals
Dodgers
Brewers
Mets
Orioles/Browns
Astros
Rangers
Padres/Angels
Marlins/DBacks
Rockies
Senators
Twins
Mariners
Royals
Expos
Blue Jays

Just need a clarification - most of the franchise leagues consider the 19th century Orioles to have no connection to any franchise - when the NL contracted from 12 teams to 8 in 1899 the players scattered. The remnants of the franchise became the Yankees, but the 1901 Orioles had few players (Wilbert Robinson, Bill Keister, Harry Howell, and Joe McGinnity among the regulars both years, McGraw and Steve Brodie were regulars in 1899 but frequently used bench player in 1901) in common.

What are we going to do here?

The way I read it the highest salary card of a player determines what franchise/era they are assigned to. And I agree that franchises that are named the same as franchises still in existence, but that themselves did not continue, are not part of that franchise. eg, the 1901/1902 Baltimore Orioles are not connected to the now Baltimore Orioles. Please correct me if I am wrong. Good question though.

Someone asked before if the Nationals are part of the Expos. Was that confirmed?

To answer the nationals and old orioles questions - use the franchise designation in SOM. Harper is listed under the expos, so he is an Expo. The old orioles will go under whichever franchise they are listed inside SOM.

Will need an hour or so for my pick - sitting in an archery store trying to get my stupid bow fixed again.
