No unleashed excitement in 2016 cards?

PostWed Oct 05, 2016 8:31 pm

A quick glance at the MLB stats shows that:

- No batter with between 50 and 90 AB has an OPS of .811 or more

- No SP with at least 5 starts and between 30 and 60 IP has an ERA less than 2.34 or WHIP less than 1.11 -- and anybody close to either one of those is pretty far off on the other.

Will this be the end of the unleashed card set?

There will be an Unleashed set next year but, to your point Terry, Glen Head will have to dig deep into the splits.

5 players in the past 3 Unleashed sets have had < 50 PA’s so that's not a criteria, and many have had an OPS < .811 (where did you get that number?).

This year’s set had 4 players with a salary > 8.29M. Next year I think it will look more like the 2012 set when there were 10 players with a salary < 3.59M. As an example from that year, Adrian Cardenas had an OPS of .552 and a card value of .55M. His one redeeming grace was he had 54 OB chances vs. LHP. Thus his inclusion.

In 2013 Bogaerts, with 49 PA’s and .684 OPS, had a salary of 1.66M. 40/60/46 vs. LHP (only 18 PA’s!). Couldn’t defend but nice DH vs. LHP.

If Snyder (47 PA’s) is included he would have a wacky card vs. LHP. 13 PA’s. 2.00 OPS.
Sanchez (53 PA’s), especially since he is a catcher, probably is included. 46 PA’s vs. RHP with an OPS of .886.

Whether these individuals get in or not rest assured there will be others in their place.

What about Hunter Renfroe? His card wouldn't be all that dissimilar to Parker's from last year and he actually is a top 100 prospect. The downside being he has about 15 less appearances.

i can't wait to draft toles on my teams next year, and hopefully to see him win the starting job in LA. that kid is fun to watch. besides being a clutch hitter he has a cannon for an arm.

He had 36 PA's. No Unleashed player has ever had < 40.

Arbitrary cutoff point. There were a couple of guys between my typical threshold of .800 and .811.

Just pointing out that Parker, Arencibia, Mahtook and Casali would not be replaced by any new fantastic flashes in the pan.
