It is nice that this person has apologized and has seemingly tried to make things right.

I do think it looks kind lame when guys create these franchise leagues, figure what cap is best for they want, and then pick first. Of course you do not have to join, and I never do, but some are not as savvy about what they are up to...

Some will crow, well winning isn't important to me, "I just wanted to play the Yankees" (or whoever), but come on. The guys who want everyone to have a fair shot, discuss rules in advance, and have random draws to see who picks first on franchises. However, I am not saying that everyone who has not done it this way is cheating, but if you are a SOM on-line veteran you can usually tell when someone is trying to get that (unfair?) advantage...

I also agree that changing the time of the draft just looks real bad. It is hard enough to fill these leagues, especially live ones.

Also just because you have never had a problem with someone doesn't mean they are 100% on the up and up with everyone at all times.

I am not trying to cast aspersions on anyone's character, but I think warning people to pay attention to the leagues they are joining is good advice... I am sure to some guys credits are easy to come by, or maybe they don't care so much about winning. And that is totally fine, but everyone should at least have the CHANCE to be competitive, and know the rules, and times going in..... I know if I spend 20 bucks on an imaginary baseball team I least want to have a fair shot at competing.

The promised credit hasn't been received. The belated apology alone was good and would have been sufficient to quell my extreme initial annoyance, which would have naturally diminished over time anyway. At worst I would have just lumped nomadbrad into the category of guys who I consider zero sum game opponents. But now with no promised credit coming my way and no explanation for that being offered (does SOM even allow the transfer of a credit from one account to the other?) the entire episode continues to rankle and my assessment of nomadbrad's motives in general is not headed in a positive direction.

Right, yeah that is an interesting twist.... Did you at least get one from SOM? Or was that from their monthly lottery? Did SOM at least respond to you?

I emailed them unsuccessfully twice, using their email contact system. Craig's diagnosis of the email problem aside, I decided to not pursue that because none of it was SOM's fault. As supertyphoon pointed out, I did get one in the lottery, but I think that was random and unrelated.

I don't actually care that much about the free credit anyway.

Thing is, I actually enjoyed chatting with nomadbrad. Seemed like a really good guy. Not arrogant at all. Great manager, maybe the best here. Funny thing is, he wasn't even on my radar until earlier this year until after the manager ratings came out, when I noticed that he was destroying ATG 8 winning a ring every three teams. So then I started joining most every public league he played in. Of the teams that are on my current completed team page, in leagues that we both competed in during that period, he won 5 rings to my four. Seems like one of the two of us won the majority of the leagues we competed in. But competing against him has made me a better manager. I studied his teams closely and identified an area that I needed improvement in. Since making the appropriate adjustment, I have won 12 rings in my last 30 completed teams and have a .549 win pct for my current teams. Also of all my active teams, every one has a winning record, although the team HAL drafted for me after the draft time got switched, is only 11-10.

It is puzzling why he said he would do something and then when it isn't done -silence. I'm guessing he just wants done with the whole issue, and probably isn't feeling particularly well-disposed toward me right now. Just a wild guess...

On a related but somewhat tangential note, I want to elaborate on what I meant by zero sum managers. To me, these are guys that don't embrace win-win scenarios, particularly in the arena of trades. In short, they will try to screw you at every turn. Now as to Brad, he is absolutely not one of these guys, we have had a couple of dealings and he was more than fair, even helpful. But he is in a league with me that starts tonight, and there is another manager in his division, whose proposed trades to me in this league show he is a charter member of the zero sum managers club. This has been a pet peeve of mine since joining this site 12 years ago and there have been a few infamous guys that Nev and I used to call out on this. Eventually all of them stopped making such offers, at least to me. So now there are just two guys doing this. By far the worst is josh03793. He only has 17 completed teams and seems to play mostly unlimited cap live drafts. In the current league that we are in he made me 17 trade offers. The first four I declined, all the rest I just deleted unread. Months ago, when he first started doing this, I responded to one of his "offers" by informing him that they were so one sided that I will never, ever make a trading deal with him - letting him know that he is just wasting his time concocting such offers. Clearly that had no effect as he just continually cranks out offer after offer. At this point, just a petty annoyance as the only work I have to do is delete the offers. But still, just odd behavior.

Getting back to the current league that starts tonight. This is the first league Brad and I are both in since the live draft fiasco. So I am mindful of his presence and tendencies and that certainly influenced my construction of my draft card. as it always has since I became aware of him. But the other manager is also in that league. The last two 100M leagues we both entered he won 105 and 100 games respectively playing in Forbes '54. So after analyzing those leagues, I came up with some ideas to derail him somewhat from getting the team he presumably wants.
So, I list Sutter first on my draft card, something I have never done before, because I know that he will be high on both managers draft cards, and I really wanted him. So right after the draft our guy in question offers me Charlton for Sutter, with a seemingly innocent, "Want to swap relievers?" Now given that Sutter was my first pick and that Charlton was his "consolation prize" for not getting Sutter, I declined the deal asking him if he thought I was a complete moron. Undaunted, a couple of days later he offers me the nickel Jackie Jensen for the .52 Tommy Davis, which I declined responding, "another predatory trade offer?" For more casual managers, Davis is an incomparably better value then Jensen - the latter is basically only usable in franchise leagues. These two examples define what I call zero sum managers. They have so little respect for the other guy that they will offer these swindles just because they didn't get what they wanted. To me this is the pretty much the lowest thing one can do here at SOM world, apart from trashing one's team. I did not mention the current culprits name as this behavior is new from him to me, but I did call josh03793 out because of his bizarre persistence in making trades that he knows I will never accept.

Since I play in almost exclusively salary cap leagues, I am always open to trade offers, even the ones I would never accept.

I wonder are these chronically bad trade offers only being made to you, or are these same two or three fellas making them to everyone?

The offer of Norm Charlton for Sutter is very comical, and it does offer some insight into this person, but I also think you get offended a little more easily than most, maybe..? Still the initial reason for your anger is justified.

It is interesting that you have paid the one guy the compliment of saying he is one of the best you have come across among guys who play ATG at mostly an unlimited cap..... You should understand just as you probably don't play the Mystery Game or the newer sets there are some very good managers that do not play ATG8.

Some of the best managers are the guys who can play any set, at any cap and still consistently make the playoffs 75% of the time, or more, with more than their share of championships. I won't call any GM great until I see they can play the Mystery Game which is by far the most ingenious and most like being a real baseball GM/Manager.
