Pay $20, pick all the players you like, maybe you get some of them, and then the ones you do get you have no clue you got the worst year of the career - until - wait for it - they get injured!

How exciting! How fulfilling! Can't wait to play again!

Can easily spit out twenties from my ATM and get the same excitement...

Sour grapes - Apparently you didn't understand the game concept before buying your team. There is so much more strategy and day to day interest in the mystery games than regular games. In regular leagues much of the fun is gone after the draft and building your roster. The fun of the mystery game continues far past that as you get to MANAGE your team by determining what cards you have. There is no guarantee that you get your player's best cards. Far from it. The successful managers work with what they have and/or try other players to use if you have a card not worth the money.

Agreed. This is probably the main reason I prefer the mystery game. I'd like to try out the 1982 season but know I'll probably lose interest around the middle of the season because it's usually pretty tough to turn things around if it's going bad.

Checkers vs Chess. Single season vs Mystery.

I use to think NASCAR was just a bunch of cars driving in a circle, fastest car wins. Then I watched a race in a true fans living room. He explained all the "details" that are lost to someone like me who had not paid any attention to the sport. That day I learned there was far more to NASCAR than driving in a circle. I'm still not a fan but, I know there is a lot more to it than I ever dreamed.

If you think drafting a team is just putting names on a list your missing those "details" that make the game. Details, details, details. If you don't like those details you will loose.

I would be more excited if an ATM was spiting out twenties as long as they were on someone else's card. Dang I just sounded like a liberal. I'm sorry for that.

Good luck!

No Ron, I was suggesting to eel that he needed to know a little more before dismissing the game. It was an analogy of sorts.

Analogy:

Noun,
a comparison between two things, typically on the basis of their structure and for the purpose of explanation or clarification.

Eelbrain, you probably ran up against some big-time uber-successful mystery league managers your first time out. Try again, and do your best to get in a league with Rob Latorre. We call him The Jersey Punchimg Bag.

Good wishes!

It is by far the greatest game I have ever played, and I am not being sarcastic at all. The Mystery Game is nothing short of genius.
