WTF Hal goes off the deep end

Well this is just perfect and am hoping I cool off and perhaps someone can give me some insight into this game. Ok its the first game of the semiplayoffs. Dale Murray has over 2 days rest, over 300 innings for the season, is the first man in for everything, middle man, set up, closer, all the extras, tie scores the whole deal. He doesnt make an appearance until the 13ttththth damn inning with the bases loaded. and throws 2 thirds of an inning and they lose. The bull pen was spent and he enters the game.

OK second game just as nuts with a 26-1 blow out loss, guess who appears to again get the final 2 outs.

I kinda understand the last game with all the shelling he is needed, Well the first is totally a freak, no logic to it.

Well I think you were destined to not win that first game, consider the number of innings your opponent began the inning with 3 straight rolls off the hitters card:

2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 11th 3 in a row came on hitters card for your opponent to start the inning, which is very opportune if you are looking to score runs. Nothing improves the chances of scoring more as even outs on the pitchers card following can still result in runs. The odds on this happening in 5 of 11 innings is one in 142 or about once a season. There also was the 13th inning where 4 roles in a row came up on the hitters card to seal the win (a 1-16 chance) and starting in the 6th when 9 out of 10 rolls came up on the hitters card (1 in a hundred chance) Your opponent had some really really really favorable rolls in addition to the very very poor game management moves.

And to take the cake your best pitcher was utilized to no benefit other than to your opponent as he will only come in fatigued in the next game and if he does that then he will not be available in game 4.

gkhd11a Ya I appreciate the response. I am not really concerned as much about being unlucky. I have plenty of it in the past and probably more good. Its the unbelievable choices to not bring in Murray way earlier - and instead bring in the whole Bull pen before him and the guy had the most rest all year.
I understand this is a game. Ya know 52 cards in a deck, 6 sides to a die, luck is involved. But that move is totally off the norm since I have been playing. I don't expect this game to be perfect but this move was completely out of context of how the game operates or should be played.

The order that you list the roles in matters. Also setting closer usage to "maximize" overrides a lot of other role settings for your closer. I can understand why HAL brought in Garman, not sure why Klinger came in to start the 8th unless you forgot to list Murray #1 for "tied and late". It's clear why HAL brought in Myers as well, and also Farmer to start the next inning.

A lot of times, with bullpen settings, less is better. I usually start out with only a few, and as HAL makes crazy decisions early in the season I add settings to remove that option. Much more productive than whining.

SOM is not going to go to the trouble of redoing their bullpen logic code, it's up to us to adapt our settings to make things come out as close to the way we want as possible.

I'm with rburgh, I would guess you change the closer setting from normal to maximizing without realizing its impact to all other settings.

Otherwise, you have a case that it's weird.

rburgh I am consider what you have to say about setting your closer on Maximum and perhaps that effected the game. Murray pitched over 300 innngs and I was used to him coming in very early in games like this. Garman u said u could understand coming in. I dont, his setting was right hand specialist, quick hook, he faced one righty and then 2 lefties.
That was Murrays spot especially the next inning.
