The proof of concept challenge

PostWed Nov 02, 2016 2:21 am

I have a challenge. Seeking out interest among ATG owners

Here are the rules:

We will randomly determine the pick order for the type of team. 100M league with no dh. All stadiums are available.
EDIT: We also hold a list of "First come first choice"--we'll take that raod if it's easier to fulfill the league.

[*]You must pick one of the 12 concept teams below and draft the players according to this concept (via the regular auto-list draft).

[*]No team can replicate the concept of other teams. For example, the all-lefty team (#6 below) CANNOT have a starting rotation of 40M made of 4 *SP (that would replicate team #8 below) or have all of their offensive players with 8 BP homeruns (that would replicate team #4 below).

[*]In case where a team cannot fulfill its concept because of a lack of free agents, that team can request any player on the active rosters. For example, if the 4 *SP aces team cannot have a rotation of 40M because of a lack of *SP agents expensive enough, that team will be allowed to request any *SP among the active rosters.

[*] EDIT: You can trade your concept team to somebody else at any time. For example, if you have the all-lefty team, and which to trade your concept to another team (for example, because of the divisional match-ups), you are allowed to do it if somebody else is willing to trade. The two owners will have to respect the same requirements. Of course, the stadiums will have been determined, and that cannot be changed.

1. The full on-base team: all starting players must have at least 50 direct on-base chances on at least one side of the card.

2. The all-platoon team: team must show 8 different starters vs lhp and vs rhp

3. The speedsters: all starting players (except pitchers) are A-stealers or have 1-16 or better running speed.

4. The all-slugging team (all starting players must have 8 BP chances on at least one side of the card)

5. The all-defense team: all starting players are rated 1 in defense and negative arms on all positions where it counts

6. The all lefty team (only left-handed starting players or switch hitters AND a rotation of lhp sp)

7. The all righty team (only right-handed starting players or switch hitters AND a rotation of rhp sp)

8. The 4 *SP aces : (a starting rotation over 40M made of 4 *SP)

9. The Perfect Fifth: 5 non *SP above 7M must be the core of this rotation.

10. The super-reliever team (the team must pick between Murray, Sutter, Wilhelm or Schultz and use the higher priced card and none of these high-priced relievers will be available to the other teams)

11. The all-out offense team: no pitcher above 3M and overall pitching squad under 30M.

12. The neutral team: This team has no specific restriction other than playing in a neutral stadium (ballpark HR must be between 8 and 12 for both left and right side) and of course not replicating other team concepts.

NOTE: I can send you a list of players that fulfill your concept if you need to (for example the list of all players with at least 50 chances of on-base on at least one side of the card).

Hey Matt,

Sorry if it wasn't clear, but the idea was not to have it "first come first choice". I thought it would be fair to randomize the order that will determine who picks first.

But if there is a popular demand, we'll do it "first come first choice"

Normally I would strongly argue for randomization of teams in such leagues but in this case I am only interested in participating if I can choose a concept that I wish to prove viable. I think that this is internally consistent with the stated rationale for the league.

Thus I would be happy to participate as manager of the speedster team but am otherwise not interested in joining this league if concepts selection is randomized.

Thanks LastDruid, taking note of your position. Let's do two parallel lists, and we'll see how it goes

Budabar, if you don't mind, please write down which concept you are most interested in. We'll see which road we take based on the people's interest:

The perfect 5. I put the team in, seeing you opened up the league.

If you go randomization, I can wipe the draft list and re-do.

Happy to go either way

OK, thanks.

BTW, I edited the first post to add a fourth rule, which says you are allowed to trade your concept at any point during the season. This might help owners that will pick among the latter positions. I had already this in mind, but forgot to write it down.

So here are the two lists:

IF WE RANDOMIZE
1-Marc Pelletier
2-Budabar

IF WE GO FIRST COME FIRST CHOICE
1- Marc Pelletier (whatever left)
2- Matt T-W (All lefty team)
3- Budabear (The perfect fifth--rotation of 5 non*SP of 7M+)
4- LastDruid (Speedsters)
