Two Letter League

PostSun Dec 04, 2016 7:18 pm

Not sure who is the commissioner in this league...

I like this idea a lot, but there seems to be a big discrepancy between the number of players available for each team based on the two starting letters of their name, for the first 6 or so teams there is a big selection and the last 6 or so teams, not many players to choose from. People are starting to drop. I wonder if it would be better to preselect 12 groups of letters that have approximately the same number of players in each group to represent tweleve more evenly matched teams. Some groups may only be 1 letter and others may be as many as 3 letters. Just a suggestion, so that we can make this idea work.

My concerns on getting this league filled:
There are 7 teams filled, GOOD.
The next two teams (maybe three, will have a decent selection) It should come out to be DP, OA, and EV.
The last two teams would have NO chance. They would be YZ and UI.
Selecting UI would give them less than 50 players from which to select. With other players going after these players as well, It would be doubtful if they could even fill a team.
We could add Q to the UI, which would make it about the same number of possible players as the YZ (probably still under 75).

I know that I wouldn't want to waste money on teams like these last two teams. Unless we somehow even this out, I will be pleasantly surprised if anyone picks up either of the last two spots.

My player counts were ballpark, so, hopefully, I am completely wrong. Like I said previously, I really like this idea and hope that it works out.

If it doesn't perhaps we should add something like this, "the first letter of each team can not be used by any other team as a first or second letter, but the second letter can be any other letter, even duplicates of another team's second letter." This would add another level of strategy and help to even up all the teams.

I agree entirely. Looking at this league, it intrigues me, but already the letters are not looking so promising. Sure, I wouldn't mind maybe some pairing of A with D or P, but I can already foresee the obvious that if I and perhaps another team were to join, this league will have no appeal to whoever gets stuck with the slim choice leftovers - in which case we would all sit waiting on the last few spots to fill for who knows how long.

A better approach here would have been to set it up here in the chat and have a snake draft so that pairings are fair from start to finish. Hopefully the commish will see and/or recognize this.

I think that the league is still salvageable, but there needs to be some modifications to the rules.

League has interesting, but unworkable concept. If team 11 joins, it would have to be V-Y, which has 67 hitters and 46 pitchers to chose from in ATG 8. The 11th team might be competitive, but the last team would not be. Team 12 picks from Q, U, X, and Z, which have in the aggregate, 26 pitchers and 20 hitters in ATG 8.

You're absolutely correct.

Another idea....How about adding a special rule for the last two teams.

"The two remaining teams must choose either VU or YZQX (give them the odd letters out). In additional, no other team can select a player with any of these letters as the first letter in the first or last name."

Only thing that I see wrong with this is a few teams would have to modify their draft to replace some of their players or be willing get rid of them in waivers or trades.

I joined the league, but am interested in getting the group to agree to a snake draft of letters or some other workable arrangement. There very few players in the Q, U,V, X, Y, Z to make competitive teams, even if the teams get 1st pick of qualifying players. Or, since the S's and M's have so many players, maybe split them? Example 1/2 S +UXYZ and 1/2 M-QV?

I assume Why V's means YV?

If someone wants the the last team, I would suggest giving them the remaining letters UZQX.

Does anyone have a problem with that?
