LMB - you can only use 1956 Yankee cards in your scenario. You can fill out your roster with players below $1M. So if Rizzuto had a card under that limit you could add him but you can't go grab any Rizzuto card you want even if he did play with the '56 Yanks.

I don't know how often this league has been done but here is a link to final standings of one I was in:

http://365.strat-o-matic.com/league/428826

The divisions were aligned so the top 6 payrolls were in the East, next 6 in the Midwest, etc. This way there wasn't a large discrepancy in salary within each division. If I remember correctly the Dodgers beat the '39 Yanks in the finals. My 2001 M's made the playoffs but were swept by the '27 Yanks. That M's team had a great bullpen and it was one of Boone's bulk up years so he had lots of power.

LMBombers wrote:Let me rephrase my question. When I look at baseballreference.com for the 1956 Yanks I see that Phil Rizzuto had playing time (only 52 AB) but does not have a 1956 SOM card in ATG. Would I be able to use any Rizzuto cards or no?

Same for any player that played on a team but does not have a SOM card for that season.

The way that this concept was created, the answer is no. You can only use the player if he was actually carded for that franchise for that particular year. Sorry LM Bombers.

But if enough players want to do it the way your considering it (maybe with a rule that the real life franchise year Yankee can be represented with (let's say) the lowest salary card from another card year, we could consider that. In other words this rule would only apply if the player actually played for the franchise for that card year, but didn't have a card for that franchise year, then (and only then) you can use the lowest salaried card for that player from any other card year for that player.

Does this make sense LMBombers?

I like this concept, and I think it would be good to allow players who played for the franchise/year, but may not have a card to the selected year. Example allow Rizzuto with the 56 Yankees...

I am ok with some restrictions (example, I think Eddie Collins had 7 ab's for the 29 A's so he would not be allowed in... I am ok with any card version, example Rizzuto 's 50 card is ok....

I agree that there should be a "floor" on the number of plate appearances that are required before a non-franchise year card can be used.

So, if the Yankees of a particular real life year actually had Phil Rizzuto play for them that year, but Rizzuto has card years only for years *other* than for that particular real life year, the Yankees of that year can use a different card year for Phil Rizzuto, provided that:
1. It's the cheapest card available in ATG;
2. No other franchise year team in our league is already using that card for their particular franchise year, and
3. The player in question (e.g. Phil Rizzuto) had at least 150 plate appearances for your own franchise year in real life (i.e. He wasn't just a fringe player in your franchise year).

^^^ Please note that the above rule only applies if the player in question doesn't already have a card for that franchise year. For example, my 1985 Blue Jays must use George Bell's 1985 card, because he has a card for my chosen franchise year (1985). I can't choose his (better) 1987 card because Bell *has* a 1985 card.

I think this would be ok as long as that player had 150 AB or 50(?) IP for your team that year. The Yanks shouldn't get a good Rizzuto card because he had 52 ABs just like I shouldn't get a good Collins card because he had 7 ABs for the '29 A's. But if Collins had played a decent amount for the A's that year getting him on my team, even with his cheapest card in ATG, would have been a good idea.

I agree that Rizzuto (or Collins) shouldn't be used. I vote to keep the rules from the previous league, only allowing teams to add sub $1 players to that years team carded players...also no trades.
