Range ratings preview - file now available

I was expecting a better rating for Trea Turner on the Nationals.
For those who saw more of him than I did was he that bad a fielder or is that the standard bad rating often given to rookies with limited playing time sample?

I heard that he had arm issues from shortstop (as a Padres farmhand) and was likely to be moved to 2B later on. The fact that Turner burned through the minor leagues so fast with his superlative hitting kind of white-washed any defensive lapses. His hitting was awesome pretty much from the start as a Padres minor leaguer. Fans weren't too concerned with his fielding. We were too busy drooling over his hitting prowess! Personally I think Turner will work on his fielding more than usual next year and we'll see.

And, I know Preller really didn't care for Turner's infield defensive skills. Btw, SOMworld has an enormous error projection number for Turner in addition to his "4" range at shortstop next year.

All that said, if you ask me, I'd MUCH rather still have Turner and Joe Ross than Wil Myers. Any day.

Strat should have made a exception for Moya and give him a 6.

What do the numbers in the same box with the last names mean? Not every player has a number next to their last name but some do. What's that about? Like Pomeranz has the number 2 next to his name. Both hitters and pitchers have them.

It's for guys who played on multiple teams, They have multiple cards, one for each team they were on. Not sure if the combined card is represented, but it would have stats for every position they played that year regardless of the team. In other words, If a guy played in Boston for 2 months and only played LF and RF for Boston, then was traded and played LF and CF for his new team, he'd have three cards, One with Boston with only LF and RF rating, one with the new team with only LF and CF ratings and then a third combined card with LF, CF and RF ratings.

Typically it's for guys that changed from between AL and NL for their two teams. They mention the cards separately since there are cards/windows game people that are AL or NL only leagues or replay leagues. There would be a combined card as well usually.

Chisenhall a "3" in RF? He was a 2 last year and IMO was close to a 1 but "rightfully"(see what I did there) a solid 2 again with a -1 or -2 arm.

I'm personally most disappointed in Cesar Hernandez being a 3 at 2B. He led all qualified second baseman in a couple of the metrics covering range, etc. and was second in a couple others. How that translates into a 3 blows my mind. Even if you give more weight to inside edge ratings, it should only move him to a 2 when all the rest of the metrics scream a 1.

I agree about Hernandez. Chisenhall, I'm sorry, but when I've watched him he really looks like a 3bman playing out of position. Is Panik really that good? I think he's solid but not a 1. Maybe I just haven't seen him enough.

I'm not saying Hernandez doesn't deserve better, but people have to remember that a 3 is considered league average. everyone reacts to a 3 like it's the end of the world but from strat's perspective its guys that are at about the league average.
