Here's an all-injury combined with cheap SP team:

That's a very interesting twist.

I always used the injury team to create excess pitching salary (in order to create an "edge"), like lpezzeme's team. I never even considered using the injury strategy to buy higher priced injury players.

Just goes to show you how a little independent thinking can move a team up the food chain. :geek:

Just dumb luck. That has to be one of Stanton's best seasons with that card huh?

In just my second attempt at playing Back to the 80s my Average Joes team posted 113 wins and lost in the semi finals. I had a 300+ run difference.

I know the all SB team has been done but has anyone built a team around the Base running tendency?

This team didn't win a ring, but knocked on the door.

There's a bit more going on here than an "All SB Team", but obviously the running game is important if you're going to try to win with four stud starters and a .650 team OPS.

Be careful of going overboard with any one concept (like all SB guys). I think you're better off building on a solid foundation of veteran best practices. Then use the SB or some other concept to create a little added "twist".

Theory: Pitching, defense, hitting, stealing, bunting, hitting & running (in that order).

I was re-reading the old December 2005 thread in the archives with luckyman and C2 discussing the hit & run and decided to give it a whirl with the benefit of ten years' hindsight. I tried to avoid overdoing the hit & run thing based on that alone.

Result: 84-78 (missed playoffs)

What's interesting: It's probably not an optimal way to go, but I'm okay with experimental over optimal sometimes. 186 stolen bases, 51 sacrifices, four of seven on the squeeze play, and 12 for 39 on the hit & run (.308 batting avg on the hit & run play).

While I led the league in pitching (despite allowing 68 unearned runs from 109 errors) which was strategy plan part A, I was 10th in run scoring, which just didn't cut it (+36 run diff). In addition, I was pretty much run over by edge's 101 win Rogers team in the West division. That happens too.

An okay plan with some bad luck and good competition yielded sub-par results. Still, a fun thought experiment to get out of the system.
