Some newbies to online SOM may believe that since they have been life long baseball fans and know baseball strategy better than most people they know and maybe even played the cards and dice SOM game as a kid that all they have to do is field a team in online SOM and start winning leagues. The problem with that thinking is that all of us here match the above criteria as well and we have been playing the online version a few more times than they have.

You get better with online SOM, like with most things in life, the more you do it. There is no secret conspiracy against new players. :geek:

To presume someone, anyone, has not only determined which dice rolls will occur and when....and then also determined which players to bat in certain spots (because of course they have charted and determined the game's dice rolls for all of strat for each night of the year)...ummm, yeah, right.

No offense, but to say successful managers know "something more" than just the cards is a bit disrespectful to those guys.

No disrespect to any of the "winning" managers keyzick I am just stating I have seen teams that have no right to be winning 90 games much less a title doing just that and it has everything to do with rolls and knowing where to bat certain players and these teams are always run by the guys who always seem to be winning titles. I have no time or inclination to chart dice rolls as I just play this as a baseball fan not for any glory as it were but it is possible to be done and actually quite easy with a pc program.

Disclaimer: I am relatively new at SOM 365. I have been playing SOM since 1966. I am a former professional baseball player. I know computer programming and have a B.S. in Aero Engineering. I kind of know what I'm talking about but my SOM 365 record is dismal. I have played in about 12 leagues and have never finished better than 3rd. I'm currently playing two new leagues and plan on not touching either team. Both have been drafted and are outstanding teams. I'm sorry to tell J-PAV that my drafting system is better than his. I seldom do not get players that I bid for.

1) This GAME is nothing like real baseball. It's purely a stats based game, with a baseball cover.

2) Pro baseball player who has a degree in Aeronautical Engineering

3) Aero Engineer (from the 60's) who knows how to program (my degree is actually in computer science from the 2000's)

4) Both drafted and our outstanding without a single link

Yea this guy is as full of total and absolute B.S. He makes Trump look valid

Maybe the reason you get the players you want, is no one else wants them

FYI. Once you fall about 5 games or more below .500, it's over. You are not going to recoup those games. I have never seen anybody climb from playing below .500 and win their division

This team was 5 games under .500 and I believe 8 games behind first place and finished first nevertheless and won the championship

Well, I guess you'll reply:"of course, you have 127 teams overall, SOM felt you needed some payback". First, consider I've been active on and off since 2001. Second, I won 33 championships, which translated into 66 freebies---actually, closer to 70 freebies, since I like to play in 24-team format and I've been quite successful in those, and of the 65 other teams that made the playoffs, let's say I got presumably 30-ish freebies. Thus, I got overall 100-ish freebies. So, you really believe that SOM needed to give some payback because I paid for 20 credits over a course of 15 years?

How long does it take a new baby to walk or talk? It is different for each person. Even when you start winning more it does not mean that you win every league you are in. Most successful managers still have an overall record for all their teams of around .520 which is only a tick over .500. It all boils down to "Sometimes you are the windshield and sometimes you are the bug" ;)

1. Chance.
2. Total number of SOM 365 leagues played.
3. Maintaining the value of your team.

1. In my experience it is luck when you win but skill when I win. Everyone knows that.

2. Hmmm, excellent point here. In no other area of life does the guy with more experience win consistently. So no doubt this is rigged by Strat to help those who play a lot. Lets face it.......
The guy who plays pool every day always loses to the guy who plays once a year, right?
The guy who plays golf every day always loses to the guy who only plays once a year, right?
The guy who plays pinball every day always loses to the guy who plays once a year, right?
I could go on all day but you probably get my point.

The people who play the most have the most experience, know the player pool better, who is and is not a bargain for whatever situation, etc. Frankly if the pattern was that I consistently with less experience beat those who play 10 times as often as me then I would suspect something is rigged.

3. So you are maintaining that the guy who does the best job of building a team up front and does not throw money away has a better chance of winning? Sounds pretty appropriate to me.

I did have the experience this year where my teams fell off a cliff--my first 20 teams did well and then the next ten were just horrible. And then I went back to my first 5 teams where I knew nothing and I was playing with veteran managers in live draft leagues and I won 85,85, 84, 78 and 72 games. This is a revenue producing game and how would you go about maximizing revenue if you were Strat? I think there would be two main concerns: (1) that beginning managers would get too discouraged and quit the game after their initial purchase, (2) that expert players don't win all of the leagues discouraging everyone else from playing. So the way you could deal with these issues is to give beginning managers a little advantage (maybe like adding batting percentage similar to what Strat says it does with home field) and then give players who start winning a lot of championships a disadvantage. I suggest that it would be batting average because my teams struggled with a low batting average and on-base. Just a theory with no real proof and I am not saying that Strat tinkers with the game--but weird things happen in this game and while there is no proof that Strat tinkers with the game it also hasn't been proven to me that Strat does not manipulate the game in some fashion (though I am satisfied that the top managers--not me--win because they put better teams together). Perhaps it's a little naive to think that Strat would not meddle in the game when it could make more money by doing so.
