Strat Slump

PostSat Jan 21, 2017 11:17 am

Ok, I have won rings and had good teams but certainly not lately. I don't know if it is me or there are just a lot of good players in this game and I am good with that because that is what makes this game great. I think I just need to step up my game but wondering if anyone has had these long (no-ring) droughts.

This is my latest team which I thought was pretty good but I am 5-10. Anyway, I love this game and have a great respect for everyone who plays.

Thanks!

Pitcher Rolls: 323 on batters cards 259 on your pitchers

I would wait to judge your team until after that evens out a bit!

THings I note:

Ron Leflore came in for defensive sub for SImmons and Elston for Torre, these are not good moves do not bring in any of your subs for defensive purposes, their hitting is poor and fielding not that good anyway.

2) You have Simmons playing CF losing the 1 range he would have in LF because you have two other hitters for LF with one used as DH.

3) Dale Murray should be set for Setup, closer, late innings and close games to use as much as possible. With Jimmy Dygert you do not need the money spent on Lidge, it would have been better used for better starting pitching.

4) A lefty relief specialist for less than a million for Lidge and using a real CF and RF would help the defense and your pitchers, with your outfield and infield I do not think your pitching will hold up, I would switch to expensive Cobb to play CF and downgrade Simmons two notches to play RF. The 8.35 million card will hit right handers better than the 10.35 million dollar card and the more expensive card is eligble to go down for 15 games. Picking up a -4 arm and the improved ability against left handed pitching with the rest of your team defensively is not worth the price. If available the 8.75 Rickie Henderson would make a great LF and leadoff hitter and let Cobb bat 2nd.

5) With the lefty leaning SImmons, Banks, Caberra, O'Neil your team as presently configured is susceptible to RH pitching and so far your division is throwing 90 percent RH pitching against you. If nothing else a use of the money from Lidge to upgrade O'Neil to Jack Clark in RF would give you a good #2 with some OBP hitter behind Cobb and help you. Ideal lineup for me in that park tho with what might be available to you would be Simmons RF 8.35, Cobb 11.35 Henderson 8.75.

also if you are going to use Leflore use the .77 Leflore to get the 20-16 as a pinch runner and the ability to steal bases. No sense in pulling Cabrera out in a game for a pinch runner if your pinch runner can't steal the base needed

There are also significantly fewer new players than in years past, so the competition is tougher.

You are also, unfortunately, in a division with two other righty teams, both better than yours. And the third guy in your division is in a ballpark that your team is not well suited to play in with a pitching staff set up to destroy RH batters.

I suspect that your record will settle out to something more palatable, but you are a big underdog to win your division.
