a "how do i..." question.

PostMon Jan 30, 2017 11:33 pm

so i am playing in a 24 team theme league (db/pre-war set) and i have the browns.

how do i set to maximize 4 starters (all the innings) and no bullpen (as few innings as possible)?

i have never gone without a bullpen of some sort. thanks.

In team strategy - set Closer usage to Regular, Relief usage to Conservative

in Pitcher Pref - set your 4 SP* to Don't Relieve before FO, quick hook on all relievers, and don't assign any bullpen roles.

in Set Your Default Rotation list your 4 SP* in the 1st 4 slots and place your cheap SP in the last slot (he would only be used if 1 of the SP* get injured).

This will maximize your SP* innings, BUT since it's a NO DH league - HAL will override your settings to bring in a PH when appropriate

Having a poor hitting bench might help. If Hal sees Joe Sewell on the bench then he will almost always pinch hit for a top hitting pitcher but Hal might let the 4w hitting pitcher hit if Ray Oyler quality is available.

You can also set most/all your relievers to don't relieve before 7th or 8th inning, quick hook & max 1-2 innings, and if they are very slanted avoid their weak side. If there is 1 decent reliever, just use these settings for all the others (and you may be able to keep most of them to maybe 20 innings a season in mostly blowouts).

I think it is very difficult to do this without a DH. I have a team now with 3 10mil+ SP in an 80 mil league, and even though I have those 3 set to not relieve before F6, HAL keeps pinch hitting for them in the 7th and 8th even when I have a small lead of a couple runs. Now I do have some bullpen settings set, so perhaps that is why, but I cant seem to get the bullpen tinkering right even after 150 games.

there will be zero usable RPer's on this team. i am limited by the roster options (only caster is priced higher than 1 mil and he is basically useless as well). this is the list of RPer's available to my team.

Here is the team I mentioned. You will notice that the most expensive guy in the pen is Dipino at 1 million, and yet the pen has racked up 130 IP.

But as I said, I do have bullpen roles set every night, so even though I have Maddux, Johnson and Greinke set to pitch through fatigue, HAL does have options.
