I'm a little concerned that the autodraft might leave a couple teams in a pretty hopeless situation. On the other hand, I have no suggestions on a message board draft would be ordered. Just a suggestion. Thanks for putting together such an unusual and realistic league.
We did a league with a 5 round message board draft where a team could only lose 2 (or 3, can't remember without going back and looking) players each round. So if we did a random ordered draft and the A's were 1st and Padres 2nd and they took Rickey & Winfield then no other Yankee cards could be taken in that round. So Reggie and Tommy John could not be picked until round 2. This did lead to other problems - I had the A's and the BoSox picked after me and I didn't pick Eck until 3 because I kept losing the max players each round so the BoSox couldn't pick him. But the draft was fun and seemed kind of a compromise to help ensure a team didn't get killed in the autodraft.
But as we wait for the last team pick this does have drawbacks that people need to able to keep up with message board or it will take forever to get this started.
I thought about a small draft on the boards as well but I think it makes sense for us to try it at least once without that as we might be over engineering it.
Ultimately I think this format works best across 4 or 5 seasons and here's why...
We could then institute a restriction around the movement of players (so as an example a Core4 couldn't be snapped up in the end of season FA draft until season 3 or 4) and we could provide a bit more protection for the Core3's during the initial season, treating them like Core4's. I believe this would put a governor on the player movement a bit and somewhat mimic the actual player changes. BUT, and this is a big BUT...there is obviously no way to predict how this will shake out for our upcoming season. I'd rather have less parameters and see what happens. If this format ends up being just the best thing since the NE Patriot's comeback then ok, let's tweak it a bit and dive in deeper.
