First look at the ratings: top 10 players per position

I'm sure some of it is but I did expect a TB of more than 35.3. Seems very weak.

Hello everyone,

I have just received the 2016 Ratings Guide and am loving it. But, I don't understand one aspect. For instance, position players will have most HR rating (w a bp number). An example will be Wilson Ramos. Against lefties, Ramos will have a 10 rating (w 8 bp)....& against righties, he will have a 2.4 rating (w 3 bp). What does the "bp" mean? I thought that it signified how many ballpark chances he had on his card....but then why would it be different (the 8 bp v 3 bp)?

Yes.

Hashtags do represent BP HR chances, but the important information is not how many hashtags there are, but where they are and how many chances they give. But ultimately, yes, the more powerful the hitter, the more chances from the hashtags. Hopefully this section from diamonddope will help.

4 = 3 in 36 (8.33%)

The reason that it's X in 36 is because there are 36 possible combinations rolling 2 six-sided die. Only 1 will yield an outcome of 2 (snake eyes), 2 combinations will yield 3 (2-1 and 1-2), etc. Since there are 3 columns, 3 x 36 = 108 chances or "plate appearances" on each side.

Let's say there's a homerun on a 7 (7 - HOMERUN). That's 6 homerun "chances" or, in effect, 6 homeruns.

Let's say there's a walk on a 3 (3 - WALK). That's 2 "chances" so there are 2 walks, etc.

Let's say there's a split or park effect (10 - HR 1-8). You take the percentage of the split, in this case 8 out of 20 (40%) and multiply that by the chances (3 * 40% = 1.2 homeruns).

Seems like my own pricing scale was roughly 1M short compared to the first pricing draft that SOM presents for the upper cards

Freeman appears at 10.03, vs my own estimated price at 8.89
Trout is estimated at 12.50 vs my own 11.51
Lemaheu estimated at 10.62 vs my own 9.55

Take note that in my ratings, I didn't distinguish 1-injury with less than 600 PA vs 1-injury with more than 600 PA (I still dont have this info yet)

Top 10 hitters per position

I decided to create a new post..

WARP= wins above replacement player (adjusted for neutral stadiium, 80M league)
Pos is the position the player will have its best value (not necessarily the top position of his card)
My est salary: Salaries as my ratings would have it...but my ratings differ somewhat from TSN...by the way this was done without knowing who is injury-prone to only 3 games or 15 games, so these values are likely to change. Also, I haven't analyzed the pitching, and this could affect the value of some hitters (eg. left-handed hitters could benefit from a little bump).

A lot of parameters I used are based on last year data, so the final numbers can change significantly (I just bumped Lindor and Pedroia salaries...numbers above corrected). Obviously, these are my ratings, not SOM ratings. SOM might decide to lower the salaries of second basemen quite a lot given this year's depth at this position and bump ss salaries so that the 10th best player at each position are roughly equivalent...but the relatively value of every player within each position shouldn't change.
