Love affairs / Jilted hearts

PostWed Feb 22, 2017 5:30 pm

My current love affair is with Selkirk's 6.76m card. Decent defense, great obp, and has shown good pop in lefty parks. I don't see him used all that often but I tripped over him in one league and now he's a regular member of my repertory company.

I'm also in a serious relationship with Earl Averil's 7.71m card. Good D, 0 injury, can hit both lefties and righties, can succeed in pretty much any ballpark. Love him.

I'm being jilted by Sambito. I started drafting him higher and higher out of peer pressure because I could never get him, but now that he's a regular on my team he usually stinks. That 2.21m card blows up my bullpen - but I assume that's where his value is? People can't be slavering over his left specialist cards, can they? Why is he so popular?

Another peer pressure pick is Steve Carlton at 4.98m - now that I rank him disproportionately high in no-DH leagues I usually get him, and rarely regret it.

Who's your current crush? Or have you been jilted?

I thought this was an update on the Kekich/Peterson scenario. :D

When I'm after Sambito, it's for the cheap cards, used the 2.21 card once and was horrible.
One of my favorites is Tank Carr at 1b. Good production for the $ and also allows you to not have to carry a backup catcher.

I've found a few discount gems, 2 of my favorites are Tommy Davis at 4.34 and Tony Piet for 1.97. Tony at 3rd shouldnt kill you with his D and his OBP with some power in the right ballpark makes him a useful roster addition. Three Finger Brown who is no discount for any of his cards never fails to disappoint me, his cheaper card at 9.44 should reflect some improvement over the more expensive 10m plus card but from what I have experienced in a boat load of recent leagues TF is a heartbreaker.

i would love to share some of my regulars, but i do not want to give anyone any ammo in the autodraft when they see my name in their league. haha!

i will however share some of my personal (i see them work for other managers in the same park, so i know they can get it done) disappointments.

1. always and forever will be c.gehringer (i haven't even bothered trying his 9.11 card. i just can't go back to that well again.)

2. m. brown - i concur with the pry statement, but his cheaper card is the way to go when you use him.

3. e. delahanty 8.21- just not quite the production i would expect from that card/price/inj risk. this card always under performs for me. his newer card though is amazing.

4. l.arroyo - still not sure why i keep using him as a setup man. when his numbers are always atrocious. maybe i will go back to using suggs again.

5. j. page - see above comments
