More Super Reliever Questions ...

Gotta ask (assuming anyone is willing to share the secret).

I'm in a league with a division rival has Dale Murray and Wilcy Moore.

At the 99 game mark. Murray has pitched in 66 games and more impressively he has literally pitched two days on and one day off the entire season (with a 1 game exception). So he is on pace to pitch in 108 games and probably have never once entered a game at F0 because he won't have pitched 3 games in a row all year despite ending up with right around 400 innings.

What kind of settings are people using to accomplish this ridiculous gaming the game trick???

have murray set for middle man and beyond and have sps set to be pulled after 6/7 innings. does the team have a right/left specialist also?

They do have L & R specialists.

I've tried similar with Murray but he kept getting put in 3 games or more in a row and kept entering the game at F0.

I'd have to double check the settings I guess. I'm assuming having Wilcy Moore a quality R5 is part of the equation as well. But it's just uncanny that he literally pitches 2 in a row, then sits one, all season long.

Egvrich, we are in a division together, so if you are talking about my team, I can give you my perspective for what that is worth.

First, I agree with Scorehouse. Unless I see a particularly favorable matchup for my starting pitcher, I tend to set my starters for max 6 or 7 innings. I do have one complete game (very proud of that!) this year, and wouldn't mind getting a few more!!!

Anyway, that seems to get my #1 reliever (whoever is my #1 reliever) in to the majority of the games.

As far as Wilcy Moore, he isn't my favorite #2 reliever, but I like him. Given your team has a lot of power (you are #3 in Home Runs and slugging pctg league-wide), and that you are in a power park, and that another divisional rival has a high batting average team (.295/#3), I felt an R5 might help in instances where my starter got knocked out early. I'm not 100% sure it was the right call to be paying for the high duration, given that some other more effective R2s and R3s are likely available at the same price-point, but I guess it was a kind of insurance to avoid having my less #3 reliever (or worse, anyone beyond my #3) see many innings. I'm not sure, actually, about Wilcy Moore. I think I would draft elsewhere in a similar team-design.

I'm also unsure about Murray. For my home park, Hoyt Wilhelm might have been a better choice. None of the divisional opponents really steal bases, so paying for Murray's -5 hold rating is a cost that isn't put to good use in this context. HW would have let up a few more home runs, but his WHIP would be far better. And he has fewer errors than Murray, too. In no-DH leagues, HW is an "A" bunter, where Murray is a "D." As far as Murray in this particular season, there is no way he will keep up a 2.3 ERA the whole season, or if he does (very unlikely), it will be a major outlier.

I think your team is good, very good, but I'm not sure I would have dropped Matthews for Thome. I guess that might work, depending on the percentage of RhP, which I have not looked at. Your run differential, and your prowess at home, and against RhP, are all very impressive!

Yep, definitely referring to your team. I don't even know if you had noticed the 2 games on 1 game off thing for Murray but it's uncanny.

Killed me to drop Mathews, he ALWAYS performs for me and I think he's the best value at that position in a hitters park, but he was totally sucking it up that I just couldn't deal with him being about the 8th best hitter on my squad nearly halfway through the season.

And Thome has actually started heating up nicely, plus I'm seeing so many RHP's that I thought I could use the Thome bump. Just rechecked the numbers and Thome is a squeak better than Mathews was, so you're probably right about that. LOL.

I have never had trouble getting high innings from a super reliever when I wanted to go that route.

But.... I would love to know that secret to getting that regular day off every 3 games cause in theory settings are same for all 3 games. So the guy has figured out some way to get Murray used in first 2 games and rested in game 3.
