2016 Franchise League Idea

PostSat Mar 04, 2017 8:09 pm

I was trying to think of a fair way to have a 2016 franchise league with 12 teams. My idea is to have the following team options. Some of the top teams are too good, so I thought let's allow other managers to have two teams in order to compete. Please let me know your thoughts.

Salary Cap 80 M / DH Rule - Yes / Trades allowed

1) Cubs
2) Red Sox
3) Nationals
4) Giants
5) Indians
6) Blue Jays
7) Dodgers / Padres
8) Rockies
9) Rangers / Athletics
10) Mets / Phillies
11) Tigers / Twins
12) Mariners / White Sox
*Other options include Astros/Yankees & Marlins/Royals

Thanks for your feedback.

You need to look at the salaries more before running with idea. Dodgers 3 most salary available (Boston is #1, Cubs #2), why are they 7th with getting extra players?

Thanks for the feedback. I hope others can help fine tune this idea as well. Would love to have a fair and easy way to play a 2016 franchise league.

It's tough, you can look at some of the other ideas...

One idea is saying teams only have to carry X amount of players from their picked franchise ( say 20, or even 15) and the rest of a team's players can be taken from the undrafted teams, so holes can be filled. Keeping with a salary cap.

Radagast has mentioned a key idea - a salary cap limiting the teams like the Cubs and Red Sox, etc. from keeping most of their players (some picked up in real-life late-season like Chapman, Kimbrel, etc.) will help even the playing field a bit, but these is quite a disparity in talent by team.

Check out the thread "Real MLB 2-Team League" idea here that I just signed up for. Not a bad idea to get to know the new 2016 catalog with minimal time investment. The league tries to even out the disparity in team talents.
