Newest ATG8 cards

PostThu Mar 09, 2017 6:31 pm

I was looking through the list of new cards and their prices.

Pleased to see some new names to use, but my initial reaction was ...

SHOCKED to see non * SP Ferdie Schupp has a higher salary than Pedro's dominant 9.38 million card ...

At a 1.25 conversion factor for SP* salaries vs non SP* salaries that makes his salary equivalent to 12.72 million for a SP*, which would be the highest in the set. Crazy. I won't use him at that price.

Flick, Elmer 1900 8,830,000
Ott, Mel 1938 7,770,000
Piazza, Mike 2000 7,160,000
Falk, Bibb 1926 7,130,000
Longoria, Evan 2009 6,690,000
Kuenn, Harvey 1959 6,610,000
Castillo, Luis 2003 5,360,000
Burns, George 1926 5,090,000
Sauer, Hank 1952 4,280,000
Boone, Ray 1956 4,200,000
Causey, Wayne 1964 1,620,000
Green, Pumpsie 1960 750,000
Clarke, Horace 1966 710,000

Ford, Russ 1910 10,380,000
Schupp, Ferdie 1916 10,130,000
Ellsworth, Dick 1963 8,950,000
Hahn, Noodles 1902 8,470,000
Pascual, Camilo 1959 8,270,000
Peavy, Jake 2007 7,930,000
Bumgarner, Madison 2013 7,670,000
Willis, Dontrelle 2005 6,080,000
Farrell, Turk 1963 5,010,000
Abernathy, Ted 1967 4,740,000
Hamilton, Steve 1963 1,600,000
Roebuck, Ed 1957 1,400,000

===

Willis has a lot of subtle positives on his card, max hold rating, good hitter.

Farrell's new card is simply outstanding for the price, a great 5-man rotation value, and a good choice for parks like Forbes 65 with no BP singles vs lefties.

Who priced these cards? Stevie Wonder?

Mel Ott is the ONLY (hitting card above $2M) I can see worth drafting at ANY cap.

Elmer Flick is NOT a bad card, but SEVERELY overpriced by about $1.5M.....my point....where do you bat him? He's a tweener....not enough OBA for the $$$ to bat #1 or #2.....not enough power for #3, 4, 5, or #6.....and not enough defense to justfiy spending almost $9M for a bottom of the order hitter.

King Kelly is a vastly superior card for $1M less! Kelly is a a border-line ELITE leadoff hitter. Tough to make an argument that there are 3 hitters in the ATG 8 set with better bang for the buck OBA with speed to bat leadoff and he has acceptable defense in RF (better than Flick!!!) PLUS if you don't have base running threats in your division you can even consider catching him on occasion....now if Flick comes in at $7.4 or $7.5M then I can see drafting him a $100M league.....as is, RIDICULOUS!

So what if they add cards, if they are priced to the point of being unusable.

AGAIN, my complaint is not about the cards.,,,It's about the PRICING!

That ATG8 class is weak! ... And now we wait many more months for a handful of new (old) cards?.... What is this The Stone Age? ... Weak!

I agree with Brad, it's not the cards it's the pricing. When I nominated Roebuck I was looking for a hard righty under .75 cents. Flick is unusable AT THT PRICE (good card though). After second look some of the pitchers are usable, but I can't see me using any of those hitters at those prices.

There is more difference in these cards if you look closer.
The 9.38 mil Pedro card has 2 ballpark HRs on the right hand side. So some limits to the parks can be used in.
Schupp has none. So would rather have Schupp than Pedro.

Schupp should perform better against RH hitters and since they outnumber LH hitters by more than 2 to 1 would rather have him on my staff than Pedro.

Pedro is an S7 while Schupp is an S8 which means a little more endurance. So would rather have Schupp than Pedro.

Schupp has the R5 rating as well. That means more flexibility in how that card can be used. So would rather have Schupp than Pedro.

So except in leagues where my division is heavy on LH hitters and Left leaning parks I would rather have Schupp. But wait, even in those leagues I would prefer the lefty Schupp over the righty Pedro.

So my final question would be..... If Schupp would be the preferred card in every situation why wouldn't it cost more than the Pedro card?

No, my final question would be this. I have Pedro, you have Schupp in say a 200 mil league where the * rated Pedro is not allowed. I offer Pedro for Schupp straight up in a trade offer. Do you accept, laugh, or post a thread about how some guy is trying to rip you off?

Might note the Willis card gets the somewhat rare -6 hold rating. Get enough of those and the new Piazza card might be useable at catcher.

Agree that Ott is usable at any cap. Flick is actually an interesting case. Was upset that he is a 3 in rf and agree that his card is somewhat overpriced, should probably be around 8 million. However, counting bp singles as 2 units of singles, and not counting BP hr's at all, he still has 60 ways to get on-base on both sides of his card. That puts him in a fairly elite class of ATG guys to bat in the 1 and 2 slots. Moreover, in small ball parks he has exceptional secondary average and thus could easily bat in the 3rd through 6 slots. I would only use him on small ball teams in general, so the relative lack of #'s simply means he is not cost effective for bomber teams. Finally, Piazza is usable at any cap, especially as a lefty platoon guy at higher caps which are the province of bomber teams generally and where stolen bases are relatively unimportant.

Compare nearly identical Babe Adams 8.81M to Schupp, and tell me FS is worth 1.3 million more for having half of his OB chances as walks instead of singles, pitching left-handed and being a worse fielder. Pedro is untouchable vs lefties, and nearly so vs RH hitters in a pitcher's park. I'll take either one of them over the most overpriced SP in the player set.

yeah-- agree why Supertyphoon on the 2 cards; babe adams, pedro and schupp should all be within about a half to 3/4 mill of each other.

and the analysis by the Druid is as usual correct

lyeah, mostly eh, meh, and what the heh on the new cards.

The Ott card is a prime example of the kind of card that would be a great higher/all cap addition.
We need more of those, otherwise it gets stale fast.
