Geez, if you're going to nominate Eddie Armbrister, what about Roger Freed, Joel Youngblood, Dan Gladden, Mike Jorgensen and Oscar Gamble, who had longer major league careers than Armbrister and more plate appearances and better numbers in their banner "unleashed" seasons than Armbrister:

Roger Freed, 1977 Cardinals, .398 .463 .627 1.090 in just 95 PA. A monster at the plate with GREAT extra base power.

Joel Youngblood, 1981 Mets .350 .398 .531 .929 in just 161 PA, 2(-3) corner OFer (he even made the All-Star team that year for the only time in his career.) 14 season big leaguer, mostly with the Mets and Giants. Best full season was 1983 with the Giants, .292 .356 .499 with 17 HRs. Below is a link to his 1983 card:

http://365.strat-o-matic.com/player/743324/1670/1/70

Dan Gladden, 1984 Giants, .350 .410 .443 .859 in 380 PA, 2(0) in CF, with 33 SB, good lead off man. Below is a link to his 1984 card, which for that season was a 2 in CF:

Mike Jorgenson, 1974 Expos, .310 .444 .488 .931 in 366 PA, a 1 at 1B and a 3(0) corner OFer. The grown up version of Ken Smith, Jorgenson can actually hit lefties and righties equally well, knock in some runs and has a crazy high, for the expansion era, .444 OBP. Below is a link to his 1974 card:

Oscar Gamble, 1979 Texas & Yankees .358 .456 .609 1.065 in 327 PA. Strictly DH material. Gates Brown like vs. righties, but actually respectable vs. lefties, with .282, 3 HRs in 39 AB. Belted 19 HRs with 64 RBI in just 274 AB for season. Just what we need, another Yankee stud!

All of the above players, except Freed (who had just 9 fewer AB), had far more plate appearances than the infamous 1968 Gates Brown card.

And from the obscure, long forgotten unleashed pitcher file:

Cisco Carlos, 1967 White Sox, S/R, 2-0, 0.86 ERA, .768 WHIP, 5.0 H/9, 1.9 BB/9, in just 41 2/3 IP. The "Cisco Kid" made 7 late season starts in a pressure packed pennant race and pitched lights out, but anemic White Sox offense kept him from more wins. Probably a 5/2 S/R. Believe it or not, there are approximately 88 ATG pitchers who pitched 50 innings or less, including 47 who pitched less than the Cisco Kid. Doug Bair pitched just 13 innings and 12 S/Rs pitched fewer innings than Carlos! 9 more S/Rs pitched about 10 or less more innings than Carlos. Why include so many mediocre pitchers, but exclude a guy who did well?

Fred Beene, 1973 Yankees, 6-0, 1.68 ERA, 1.033 WHIP, 6.6 H/9, 2.7 BB/9, in 91 IP. Pitched in 19 games for Yankees, including 4 starts. Original 1973 card was a S/R, later version just a reliever. Should be a S/R, but one never knows with SOM. Pitched 21 more innings than 1974 Dale Murray! Enough said.

Steve Rogers, 1973 Expos, 10-5, 1.54 ERA, 1.060 WHIP, 6.2 H/9, 3.3 BB/9, in 134 IP. Made 17 starts for the '73 Expos. Career long Expo, who despite 13 years with the team, starting in 1973, somehow managed to go 158-152 during his career. Very underrated pitcher. Best full season was 1982, 19-8, league best and career low 2.40 ERA, 2nd in NL Cy Young voting. Below is a link to his 1982 card:

I want it to be clear that NONE of the above players will be my 1 nomination, but if you are considering nominating a little mentioned fun card from a mostly forgotten player, the above players may be worthy of consideration.

Rosie2167 wrote:As advertised this upcoming Card Add will be open, so nominate any player you want. To create some order to this process, when you post your nomination please do so listing your SOM handle/Player nominated/Year/Team/POS/Stat line.

Including the stat line or other reason to vote for this guy will help me tremendously as I build the polls.

For example if I wanted to nominate Chuck Stevens (the second oldest living major leaguer) I would post the following...
Rosie2167/Chuck Stevens/1948/SLB/1B/261-354-341-695, 2nd oldest living player!

We'll keep the nominations open until April 18th or until we get to 100, then we'll vote. I'll ask SOM to post a link to this topic within the Front Office.

TKS!

So let's get started....who's first?
