I don't think anyone's wondering why, as there's no mystery here. Some people are better at building keeper teams than others, and those people have a bigger stockpile of assets to use and/or deal. Pretty simple really. :)

Not sure if you're talking about Happ and Ortiz...but those were the only offers I got.

Probably accurate. In my case, I've been in the league since inception, and my teams have made the playoffs 9 of 19 seasons, including last season. But...I've incessantly traded picks away at the deadline to add a piece (usually a one-shot wonder, like Curt Casali) to my teams to try to get them into the playoffs. It's finally reached untenable as my pitching staff is just crap. So I'm selling off and trying to get a roster full of 20-somethings.

as for rich getting richer...jfat has long been the gold standard...I joined the league around time wilmur was saddled with a laughingstock roster, then in back to back years, the top pick yielded trout and harper..he's built a dynamo around that core, and somehow jfat ALWAYS has tons of talent, just look at who he has to drop! they were able to help each other's minute weaknesses through deep stockpiles of reserves that could probably contend in other divisions.

I just don't think in my opinion you trade the best catcher in baseball without getting the best of something back, If you are trading all star, isn't in your best interest to see what other teams might offer. I don't trade anymore so this isn't sour grapes, but this isn't much fun anymore.

just to defend my trade ,posey may be the best catcher but he hit 14 homers last year, slg .434 and he is 30, i have molina, rendon is young and a 1 at third . i can play bryant in left and gallo could be the next chris davis ,or not.

also , too , a strat season is not a strat season without a trade with jflatour ,and i long ago gave up trying to out fox my friend to the north

I took over a team the C'est la vie league last year. First move I made was to trade K. Bryant. Not sayin' that I enjoyed doing that but I took the risk. I'm responsible for my moves, as Bill is, as everyone else is. If Posey (like Joe Mauer), stops catching in 2 or 3 seasons and finish at 1B, I'm fucked. Renton & Gallo might have many great seasons left. We can't say.

What's really killing a keepers league IMO is when someone like Catom clears all his talent and picks for one hit wonders.
I don't think we have that kind of managers anymore in this league. And like Padre, sometime, we have to know when to rebuild...
