'60s 2nd base. Who do you like?

PostMon Apr 24, 2017 1:45 pm

Howdy,

I'm in a '60s decade league and have chosen Tiger stadium (Bombs away!). Currently I've got McAuliffe, but would prefer him at 3rd, given his 3e36 defensive rating at 2nd. So..who do ya'll like at 2nd base? Lumpe, slick-fielding Bobby Richardson, Dick Green, et al (who has a bit of power, btw)? Chime in!

PS: I've got Fregosi (a "2" who hits pretty well) at SS and McCovey at 1st. I've dropped Don Hoak, seeking more power. The season hasn't started yet. I also have Maris and Duke Snider. Landis in CF.

In Tiger Stadium I like McAuliffe (on any of his 3 good years) better than anybody. Other than Morgan, you are probably going to lose a lot of offense by moving McAuliffe to 3rd. Also, he's not a very good 3rd baseman either. So, that's my opinion, you're probably better off looking for a good 3rd baseman than a replacement at second. btw, McAuliffe is a 3e26 at 2nd and a 3e33 at 3rd.

Howdy,

Thanks, Frankie. I've a difficult time putting a "3" at 2nd. There aren't any good 3rd basemen available who aren't a "4" or "5" defensively.

Glenn Beckert - 4 serviceable cards for <$1M, 2b-2. Live with him and spend elsewhere.

Either SS or 2B should be your cheapest position. If I get Banks for SS, I would with start with Green or shop around for a best card from the likes of 2 rated with some power cards like Moran and Bolling.

Howdy,

How about Beltin' Bill Melton or Don Hoak? We're in a bomber park, btw.

Melton. A cheaper option is to try and get lucky with a good Radar card like 1970.

Howdy,

I take it nobody likes Bobby Richardson (1e15 and an OPS of .645) at 2nd? 2nd trails only SS in number of defensive chances per game, btw. Anyone?

I caught his '62 card the one time I had him. He killed LH's (.402 OB, .518 slg in 245 AB's). More pedestrian vs. RH's (.311 OB, .383 slg), this is in Cleveland Stadium. Started every game. I liked him.
