We didn't get those back then. We either won, we got better, or we learned to deal with it. 8-)

My last little league team is, to this date, the only championship team I've ever been on. Woe is me, man--my senior year of HS, I thought about going out for baseball again (after lettering and batting leadoff as a frosh), and went "Nah...my girlfriend's in track." They started a dude in LF (where I would've been), who batted .168, and they still won the state title (thanks to one of our pitchers going 16-0 with a pair of no-no's). The school's only state championship at this point. (I blew it):-(

I agree with the Last Druid earlier in this thread -- it's not a fiasco, but let's eliminate or at least downgrade Dale Murray's card, maybe others too. R2 probably. Because, I've gotten 412 innings from Wilcy Moore (R5) at cheaper cost -- that time he won 32 games. Another time he won 37 games (377 innings). Check the relief pitcher records. What you gain in the super reliever, you lose a lot in very cheap starting pitching, at least the way I do it, so there's a trade-off. Doesn't guarantee championships, just another strategy.

It seems most people are mostly offended by the name on the digital representation of whatever it is that this game does, why not just change the name on Dale Murray’s card to Goose Gossage? Then all will be ok. Otherwise there is no point in adding the single best years of all these MLB players that are totally disproportionate to their actual career — for instance Glen Beckert and adding his .342 1971 season which totally misrepresents the type of hitter he was, it is only the unusual cards or “special” cards that seem to be requested if they have a purpose for a particular park or specialty league, but only if they have the right name attached to them. Hell lets have an approved list of names for the cards and just randomly attach the names when you purchase the card so that reality prevails. Would it really matter if Goose Gossage had 100 cards, you get one you get to choose from all 100 might make the game a lot more interesting. Would even return drafting of cards to a semi-important status

That is incredible, I never realized Beckert hit .342 in 1971. Wow. It would be an interesting card...By the way. a .342 season does not misrepresent a lifetime .283 hitter like Beckert, totally within the range of probability. Very underrated, forgotten player. Otherwise, I think all the super reliever criticism is a case of trying to be perfect when good is good enough.

As I've said, what is it, 145 times now; create TWO ATG sets.
Set #1 would be an MLB set with cards from 1894 forward without the Murray, Gates Brown outlier cards, no other cards, simply MLB Cards.
Set #2 would be an Unleashed ATG set, with NeL cards, small sample size outlier cards, Japanese cards, pre-1894 cards, my 11 year old Little League card, whatever.

Best of both worlds.

Removing outlier cards from the current set is the way to go. You can't seriously be saying that pre-1950 black players are part of the problem with the existing set. Can you?

Wow, that's an interesting way to interpret what I said.
I didn't say they were part of this current problem this thread was meant to discuss, I said I think it would be nice to have two sets, one, a strict MLB set, the other, a more wide-open set with outlier cards PLUS some non-MLB cards, and pre-1984 cards.

My point is that any true (at least what I would term true) MLB set should include the NeL cards. The NeL cards should not be grouped with the outliers, Japanese cards, etc. They belong in the MLB set.

I guess I didn't State this idea as comprehensively in this thread as I have many other times on the forums. One set would include ALL CARDS. All MLB, NeL cards, outlier cards, pre1894 cards, anything else that the community wanted to add.

Then also an MLB SET, with only 1894 and following cards from MLB seasons, with a way to exclude outlier cards.

I would definitely play both.

I love historic MLB. For me, Strat's ATG Set is simply a vehicle to enjoy that. Conversely, for some guys, they love Strat; ATG is just a vehicle to enjoy Strat.

Here's an idea...

Why not just INCREASE the price of these cards?

Make Murray $8 million?

Gates- $7-8 million as well...

(I just threw these prices out there)
