Ok, we have officially tanked. Got swept by Hawk at home too. Hawk has a fine team, but they're not exactly built for Coors, starting five hitters who are weak with NO bphrs and two others with a single bphr. Not much is going right at present. :(

It would help if Roark had a sub 5 ERA. Even in Coors, that's a pathetic performance for a pitcher of his caliber.
Heck Paxton has an ERA of 8.00 that's just stupid bad. I mean come on 8? He's not *that* bad.

We've gone 2-10. This has to change.

Probably not a good time for this, but I have it done so.... I grabbed the numbers before I lost 5 of 6 so... and if any of you have been bad or good then........

The West looks like the best division followed by the East then the Central. With the good hitting parks in the West, they dominate the offensive stats (as we'll see) The East dominates the pitching and fielding stats, but are last in hitting. The Central is in the middle of the three stats (get it? That's a joke, but it's true... :P)

Ratings would say that Semper should RUN away with the East, JTJ would win the west, but that Stoney would be right there and that the Central would come down to Spider and hawk. The Central is close to expected, the West was until we lost 10 of 12. The East? Not so much.

The Biggest discrepancy is Semper who is right around .500. Now, that said, extreme teams and D tend to vary a lot from the ratings. The same could be true of JTJ. Then again, Stoney is pretty much as extreme as JTJ and he's doing just fine. Smokey is getting killed in one run games which explains part of his underperformance, but I'm not sure what else is going on there.

Ratings say that GB and Doug have overperformed majorly and Falcon has too, especially in the West.

Decent amount of variance here with Hawk, GB, and Big A doing better than expected and Smokey and Spider not getting what might be expected.

Falcon.   5816   10   9   1   W

What is most noticeable here is that Semper is soooo much better than the rest of the league and Big A, who is a good distance behind Semper is even farther ahead of Hawk.

Less variation here, but still some. Big A should be better and Spider worst. More minor anomalies for JTJ and Smoke on the negative side and GB and Sale on the positive.

More variation here than normal. Of course, I often do this later in the season so... only Jeep and Hawk over performing stand out.

All for tonight, any observations?

I've been quiet due to another lackluster under-performing NLD squad. Seems like I can't shake a funk I've been in for a few seasons now.

My squad isn't too far off from teams that have performed well for me this season. That said, nothing stands out as to why I'm not doing well with this team, like behind in rolls, excessive errors, etc. It's just a team that's not performing good together as a group.

I didn't draft particularly well, that is probably something I need to emphasize in the next league.

Thanks for the ratings Joe. It bears mentioning that I didn't fare well there either.

Joe, I don't take the time to look at the whole league past the live draft but do try and look at my division pretty close and see how things match up. I have a simplified version of ratings that Luckyman shared years ago. It's not as thorough but does help compare players in different ballparks. My ratings are for all teams based on my ballpark so not an accurate reflection of your team from a league point of view. But what I'm seeing is,

Offense - Joe and I are about the same. I'm slightly stronger Vs L and he's slightly stronger vs R. I'm pretty much in line with your ratings with Falcon 3rd in our division and Smokey last in offense. Smokey has the lowest offense rating vs L and significantly lower vs R which I think is one of the keys in the game.

Pitching - I focus on Starters since there can be wide range in usage with RP. I don't include fielding in ratings.

In your ratings you have us ranked Smokey, Stoney, Joe & Falcon. I show Falcon, Stoney, little gap, Joe and then Smokey. Again, I'm not taking into account RP so that is probably a pretty big swing since it about 1/3 of the innings. I'm also not including fielding.

Fielding - Smokey could have really helped his team with a different alignment. Having Ortiz 1Be24, Machado SSe23 & Bregman 3Be34 isn't helping his pitching staff at all. I'm not much better with Swanson, Healy & Kipnis.

My thoughts on our division going into the season.

Stoney - Strong BA vs L & R with plenty of extra base hits. Pitching was mirror image with low hit and total base numbers. Didn't expect quite this success and current loosing streak shows that gaudy home record was a mirage.

Joe - was going to score runs but pitching wouldn't hold up
Falcon - all righty offense was going to hurt him. Glad I was able to pick up Sanchez instead of Santana to match up better.
Smokey - sorry buddy, didn't see enough OB on the team. I didn't think you'd have enough offense to stay in the game until your bullpen could close it out.

I always hate commenting on my teams because it's an instant KOD but since I'm in a big losing streak it shouldn't matter. Hopefully I have enough of a lead to hold on to the division but I see a big run by Falcon coming on.

Joe, thanks for publishing your ratings. I haven't done my own for the league, but I think my team is probably another Central Division finisher. My offense is performing closer to my expectations than you show, but my expectations are lower than yours.

Through 93 games, Grichuk, by far, is my biggest offensive disappointment - only generating 35% of expected Runs Produced and both Andrus and Buss are 20% below expectations. Turner and Rivera (playing more) are the only ones 20%+ above expectations.

My pitching has been a big plus. Martinez has been excellent, as has Dull - when used. The rest are having a ho-hum season. And you nailed my fielding - below average on paper and performing worse.

I feel like I'm not getting any love here. Considering that I screwed up the draft I'd say that the Pylons are keeping the faithful home fans excited about our prospects. Going into last night we were tied for the Wild Card spot, until the Doobie Brothers started into China Grove and distracted us. A tweak here, a benching there, and maybe a little magic, and we're right in the thick of this thing.

Joe, your ratings are always welcomed, as they provide some otherwise unavailable insight, and stimulate this sort of debate. Thanks for doing this.

With 3 weeks still left to go, the division is still up for grabs. Stay tuned, and hold on for a typical Wild Wild West finish.

Just when I thought that maybe, just maybe my team could catch up to our division rivals ... we got swept by the accents.
