Consider Jim Fregosi

I've made it a habit of using Jim Fregosi's $.87m card as a backup to my 1st and 3rd basemen, particularly if I or many of my opponents play in a righty power park.

Because I have too much time on my hands, I've gone back and looked at his performance on the 35 teams I have used him. Only once has he failed to hit at least 1 home run for me, and that was in a year he managed only 22 at-bats.

Over 3,343 at bats he has hit .243 with 216 hrs. On a per year basis that's 95.5 at-bats and 6.2 hrs.

Extrapolating his numbers to a 550 at bat season, he would average 36hrs, 80 runs, 90 rbis.

In conclusion, Jim Fregosi is a decent $.87m backup.

Cat's out of the bag now. That card, with 15 BPHR total, is pretty ridiculous for 0.87.

I've used him a handful of times not as a backup but as my regular 3B in power parks, mostly on a lark. After all the games missed with injury, he'll end the season with around 30 HR's and 80 RBI. It's a lot of run production for less than a buck.

That's a crazy amount of double plays though, 35 vsR!!! That'll kill a lot of rallies.

I use Jimmy Bloodworth's .65 as a BU at 2b, 1b and 3b, and usually get a handful of HR's from him. I've thought about starting him at 2B in decent HR parks.

I had Jim on my Barnstormers Finals team, he had 12 hrs and 30 RBI in only 137 AB. And, he only had 1 GIDP all season!
