Now that I've made my shortstop pick, it's time for my semi-regular draft announcement about what a weak position it is. Assuming that Segura, Rodriguez and Baez are going to regularly play at 2B, where they have much better fielding ratings (or 1B or OF in the case of Rodriguez), here are the highest priced NL shortstops with fielding ratings of 3e33 or better:
4 Million Plus
Crawford, Brandon 7,010,000 ss-1e12 Taken by Zim
Villar, Jonathan 5,000,000 ss-3e27 3b-3e50 2b-3e21
Seager, Corey 4,970,000 ss-3e19 Taken by Ycbill
Swanson, Dansby 4,550,000 ss-2e28 Taken by Meat
Russell, Addison 4,310,000 ss-1e16 Taken by Al
3-4 Million
Cozart, Zack 3,880,000 ss-1e14
Diaz, Aledmys 3,670,000 ss-3e25 2b-4e28
Story, Trevor 3,560,000 ss-3e17
Peraza, Jose 3,420,000 ss-3e12 cf-4(+2)e5 2b-3e20 lf-4e5
Rosales, Adam 3,340,000 3b-3e23 2b-3e29 ss-3e25 lf-4(+1)e16 1b-4e5
Cabrera, Asdrubal 3,110,000 ss-3e8
Galvis, Freddy 3,070,000 ss-1e8
1.38 Million and Less
Arcia, Orlando 1,380,000 ss-2e16
Espinosa, Danny 1,320,000 ss-2e19
Mercer, Jordy 1,040,000 ss-3e10
Blanco, Andres 1,030,000 3b-3e39 2b-3e22 ss-3e5 1b-3e25 lf-5(+2)e16
If just one team decides to put Villar or Peraza at 2B or Rosales at 3B, another team will likely be looking at one of the $1.38 million or less guys as a starting shortstop (or delving into the world of "4" range ratings). I wouldn't want to be that team.
(And, yes, this is a self-serving announcement, as I want to see teams scrambling over the remaining shortstops instead of picking players at other positions.)
