In case you are interested in X Factors per position, I know gamiam mentioned the frequency issue. The following is from the same team Appling was on. A total of 3169 rolls on my pitchers cards.

C 94
1 65
2 169
3 101
SS 189
LF 51
CF 73
RF 76
P 57

Wow that RF x frequency is crazy. That has to be an outlier.

I thought the same thing. I thought it was a mistake. But nope. It's correct. I will check again though. I'm doing these numbers for another team of mine. A team that had a shortstop with a range of 1. That will make these Appling numbers more interesting.

Observations on defense

PostSun Jun 18, 2017 12:47 pm

1) Nothing is more variable, i.e., has a greater standard deviation, because it has so few samples per season compared to other performance measures. On one of my teams Galarraga makes an out only 60% of the time on a 1b(x), and he's 1b-1e14, while Gardner is 83% on 3b(x) and he's 3b-1e11. That's after 144 games.

2) Def vs Off depends on the ballpark, and in a way you might not expect. Is Appling's def more of a hindrance at Candlestick or Huntington Ave? I'll leave that one open to see what the prevailing wisdom is.
