Maybe I'm just confused, but I don't see why someone would have to forfeit a future pick just because they've traded to get extra picks that year. Certainly they would have to drop an extra player prior to the draft so as to have the same amount post draft. I know that there is value in upgrading a 5th to a 1st round pick but not as much as just getting an extra 1st rounder. However, if the rule is that you lose the 5th pick, then surely you shouldn't be able to trade it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Dr. Publix have an extra 2010 2nd rounder, in theory knocking out his 5th rounder for that year. Yet he has traded that pick to Kihoover in the stadium draft. By the way if I'm wrong I've got a 2011 5th rounder for trade.
I agree with oldmansmith. we should get the future picks question under control now. I'm confused now as I've traded away picks in the future and want to make sure I know exactly what I've gotten into.
I agree with oldman smith also.In other leagues i have been in playing computer baseball teams are allowed to trade any picks they want except for there #1.They made trade that #1 as along as they get a #1 pick returned in the deal.It protects potential new owners when taking over a team.My 2 cents.
If I understand correctly, the preference would be to say that each draft retains its stated number of picks -- 480 in the initial one and 60 in later ones -- even as ownership of the picks changes hands, right?
