I'd encourage you to take a look at Messersmith's '69 season. I think that card might be a better, more impactful option than '72 for the Angels. His card is available in the 70s set.

69 is a fine choice. I just see that in 72 he rarely gave up homers, well below league average. Also, in 69 he led the league in wild pitches - not so good. But I am fine with either. I leave it to you.

can someone compare the 69 and 72 seasons for Messersmith? I don't have the card viewer and can only see 69 in the 70s set.

My five personal choices would be:

1981 Bobby Grich
1987 Wally Joyner
1962 Leon Wagner
1991 Bryan Harvey
1972 Nolan Ryan

My two alternates:

2011 Jerrod Weaver
2007 Chone Figgins

No, Torii Hunter should be a TWIN. If we are going to do a Hunter card, make it his 2007 card with the Twins,
CF-1(-3)2, 287/334/505. Better defense (CF vs RF) and better offense than above Angels card.

Agree BUT we aren't adding Twins specifically and the other cards are targeting pre-2000. So I'm looking for any chance to include Hunter. But if you think adding an Angels card for him reduces his near future chances of getting in as a Twin, I can see that.

I do. Besides the fact that the Twins card is better. If it was a transformative card, maybe, but since it is not, 12 seasons as a Twin should count for something.
