Open All-time Great Teams League - Full!

PostWed Nov 15, 2017 11:01 am

Since the ATG set began with a focus on all-time great TEAMS, why not a franchise league focused around some of those historic squads? Browsing through the set, there are quite a few specific teams/seasons for which most the roster is carded.

League Parameters:

Full ATG set, Autodraft, $85MM CAP, no DH. 5% CUTS.

Process:

Pick a franchise AND SEASON. Franchises will be exclusive within each the pre & post WWII eras, marked at ‘46/‘47. Once a franchise/season is selected, that franchise is off the board in that era only...meaning that this league can have both pre and post WWII teams from the same franchise. So possibly, two Yankees teams, two Red Sox teams, etc.

Team selection order will be determined by randomizer once we fill here.

Rules:

You must use a franchise park, it can be any park in the set in which your franchise played, no matching era requirement.

From opening night on, you must roster a minimum of 13 players who played for your franchise during the season you select. It doesn't have to be that year's card, it doesn't even have to be your franchise's card, it can be any cards in the set representing those players.

Beyond this requirement, you can use any player who played for your franchise at any point during your era. And just like the rule above, you can use any card in the set representing that player. For example, a player who played for the Yankees both before and after ‘46/‘47 could potentially be on either a pre or post Yankee team, and in either instance any card in the set representing that player is fair game.

From opening night on, you must carry a minimum of 26 players on your roster. Why? Because scrubs are people too. And you have that extra $5MM to work with...

You will generally have 100% exclusive rights to all players who played for your franchise your year. Only situation where you might not...if your player also played for another selected franchise/season. In this case rights go to the team/season for which he is carded, and if carded for both, he goes to the team/season for which his card has either the highest plate appearances (AB+BB) or highest IP.

Trades are permitted as long as all teams involved have exclusive rights to the players they're dealing away. For instance, if you want to blow up your historic Yankees squad to see Mike Trout in pinstripes batting ahead of Lou Gehrig, and your counterpart wants Babe Ruth, you both go right ahead.

question for purposes of this format, are you considering the db and expansion eras as separate eras? so in theory there could be 4 of the same franchise...or just two pre and post? this wasn't clear to me.

Good question.....Also please define a "franchise/season" Does that mean for example, if you selected the Yankees that you would have to pick a specific year? So if you pick 1927. From opening night on, you must roster a minimum of 13 players who played for your franchise during the 1927 season you select?

That’s exactly right. You might pick, say, the ‘27 Yanks or the ‘01 Mariners. In either case, 13 of your 26 players will have to be guys who played on that specific team that year. This is why you’ll have to focus on the fully carded teams in the set. I haven’t counted, but there are probably around 40 such teams.

Eras are pre and post WWII. Pre includes db era. Post includes expansion era.

Sticking with the ‘27 Yanks as our example; in addition to rostering 13 or more players who were on the ‘27 Yankee squad, with any card representing those players, you’ll be able to go for every other card in the set which represents a player who ever played for the Yankees in any year up to and including 1946. The challenge won’t be finding enough players, it will be fitting all that talent under the $85MM cap!
