I think there is a question for commissioner whether the Mariners spent their 1st or 2nd pick to protect the Big Unit

I think Curt Schilling is a core 6, so i can protect him with one pick, right? The Astros picked him, i want to use my pick to protect him.

*New for 90's, Amendment 2:
If one of your players is drafted off your roster AND he's is listed as a Core6+ for you, your counteroffer for that player is only one pick, not the two listed above. The competing club can't up their offer, the bidding is over.

unless I mis-read the above Amendment I should only lose 1 pick for protecting Johnson.

That sounds right to me. Too many rules to keep,them all straight sorry about Johnson, but I just had to try for the best I could get. YF

Shouldn't it be Mariners first round pick used to protect and they still have their second round pick?

While it makes sense that it should be the highest pick available to the club protecting, its not written that way. So if we come down this road again in future seasons we will tweak the rule to read highest available pick must be used...but under these rules, no, any pick can be used.

After this FA draft concludes you will post 15 keepers from your 142+ game roster on the Post your keepers board, protected players need to be included in your keepers. Those keepers need to be on your Auto draft card along with your FA draftees, obviously at the bottom. So its 15 Keepers + and FA draftees. Any players (keepers and FA draftees included) not on your auto draft card and that qualify for other clubs are fair game during waivers. No other requirements for your auto draft card exist. EI. If your club holds exclusive rights to a player he does not have to be on your auto draft card.
