No big surprise on that first pick. The '27 Yankees are widely considered as the best baseball team ever. They went 110-44, were never out of first place, and swept the Pirates in the World Series. They hit .307 as a team. We all remember the "Murderers' Row" moniker, yes? The team sports 6 Hall of Fame players: Pennock, Hoyt, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Combs and of course Babe Ruth. Will we see them all?
And the '61 Yanks go second! Nothing to scoff at, that squad set a new record for team HR's. Their lineup featured Mantle, Maris, Berra, Skowron and Thompson, and revived the "Murders' Row" moniker. They went 109-53 before beating the Reds in 5 games in the World Series. With league expansion, the schedule increased from 154 to 162 games that year, and with those 8 extra games and perhaps a little watered down pitching, Roger Maris eclipsed Babe Ruth's single season HR record by hitting # 61 in the last game of the season.
rynecrazy picks next. Only thing we know for sure...it won't be a Yankees team.
