But to truly create the quandary requires the selection of not the “pre WW2 Red Sox” - but the 1916 Red Sox. League rules require you to select a specific franchise season and carry on your roster at least 13 players who played on that team, that season. In the set Babe Ruth is the only 1916 Red Sox card. I highly doubt that you will find cards for another 12 1916 Red Sox players, In which case it will be impossible to create a compliant roster. So the 1916 Red Sox are likely not a viable option, let alone a good one. Even so, I think we can all agree that Ruth’s greatest accomplishments were as a hitter. So I think the fact that he had more plate appearances in 1927 than 1916 trumps anyway.
