Hi guys I have updated all of the trades through today on the roster sheet, please double check your rosters and let me know if you notice any errors.
Also I have updated both draft orders on the 2018 draft tabs. I hadn’t calculated the tie breakers correctly previously. They are updated now with an adjustment for the 3 way record tie between Splinter, MFL and Peter. The tie breaker is last years combined run differentials which are as follows:
Peter -130
Splinter -123
MFL -24
Peter will pick 4th, Splinter 5th and MFL 6th in both drafts.
Finally I wanted to bring up the Shohei Ohtani situation and see if anyone has thoughts about how it will affect our rosters. This is partial speculation and we don’t really need to address it until next season, but since he will most likely be drafted this season, we should start to think about it at the very least.
The reason I am bringing this up is because for the game engine, he will have to have 2 separate cards (similar to Babe Ruth and Joe Wood in ATG), 1 for hitting and 1 for pitching. Since this could potentially be an unfair advantage in a keeper league (the owner would control 40 roster spots but 41 strat cards) such as this.
The way I see it there are 3 different scenarios. (1) The owner controls the player and owns both his hitting and pitching cards. The Player counts as a single player on the 40 man roster, this is just the inherent advantage of having a very talented player. (2) The owner controls the player and owns both his hitting and pitching cards. The player counts as two slots on the owners 40 man roster, 1 as a pitcher and 1 as a hitter in order to reflect the way in which the game engine simulates the real world. (3) The player is drafted twice, once as a hitter and once as a pitcher, which count as separate instances on the 40 man and would potentially be owned by 2 separate teams.
Personally I think option 1 is the best, but is does give that owner control of more start cards than all the other teams, so I’m not sure if everyone thinks that is unfair or not. I can also see the case for option 2 as a possibility since that disadvantages one player and not the other 11. Option 3 doesn’t seem fair to me since we are talking about the same person, even though the game engine basically treats them as 2 people.
Curious to hear what you guys think about this or if anyone has a better solution?
Thanks and Happy New Year!
