Denial of Service?

PostTue Jan 09, 2018 8:18 pm

Still can't access the Barnstormer's material, kind of important to prepare for the finals. I appreciate the links to the active leagues but I need to access all the seasons for each guy in the finals. And we're supposed to buy the BS that everything is fixed. It isn't. It is worse than ever.

Games run later and later. Live draft not operational.

Not a peep out of Garcia in nearly two months.

I think it is perhaps the perfect irony, that the game company gets hit with an alleged denial of service attack, when we, the customers, have been denied anything faintly resembling customer service by the same misanthropic company for the past god knows how many years.

I cannot begin to even my express my disgust at how we are treated by SOM.

A tip of the hat to whomever was behind the alleged Denial of Service attacks.

Replace "onlinegames" with "365" in each URL and that should do the trick :)

Yeah it looks like to me, they disabled the DNS records for "onlinegames.xxxxx". That's probably the URL that got DOS'ed. On FRIDAY 1/5 - I e-mailed SOM with my very private (NOT) e-mail address 365support@ and told them that the records section no longer works because MOST of the urls start with onlinegames. I asked them to either fix the DNS records for onlinegames.xxxx or to create a script that will run through the urls and change everything to 365. I'm certainly not going to do it manually one record at a time.

Their response? Absolutely nothing at all so far. NO REPLY So records don't work, urls for past Barnstormers leagues don't work, my bookmark for getting to onlinegames don't work.

It's all UP TO US to change everything to even ATTEMPT to get things to work.

Yeah, I'm not surprised they got DOS'ed.

On the plus side, their e-mail system is working great. I get my SAVE THE DATE - LAST CHANCE TO BUY TEAMS - OPENING DAY IN GLEN HEAD - flooding my spambox on a quite regular basis. Right on cue- daily - several times a week - big bold bright e-mail - massive time spent by the graphic artists on staff who probably get a lot more $$ than staff programmers

Clearly the focus is on SALES, not SERVICE.

Some stuffs happen that aren't necessarily anyone's fault- cyber attacks do occur to all sorts of entities for example- I wouldn't expect that anyone is immune to it;
BUT
when the things that are easily controllable are continually neglected then it becomes incredibly hard/impossible to just excuse the ones that aren't.

A simple e-mail reply - Hey Rick, we acknowledge the problem with the records section -- we are doing blah blah blah and expect to have a fix in blah blah blah. - As of now - 5 days of STATIC. I think that was my point.

I think we should suspend the actual Barnstormer finals until the site can be accessed properly. And Rick is spot on when he says that SOM is about sales and not service. Question is, what to do about it?

I'm also very much contemplating forming face to face leagues via skype, where we can actually roll the dice and interact live and make play by play managerial decisions, all the while paying nothing to SOM. That would not only be way more fun, let's face it, playing strat here on line is convenient but a pale imitation of the real thing. No need to even have net play or buy anything from SOM going forward. I LOVE that concept.

Also what would be cool is for people who live in the NY metro area, to show up and picket opening day at SOM. That would get their attention for sure. I would do it if I still lived on Long Island.

Issues like this should be an easy fix, but, and as Mr Salt states, when things like this are continually neglected, it really leads one to believe that nobody at Strato is paying attention, or really gives two hoots!

At least you get notification of new products and player sets. I've been a customer for 46 years and haven't received any mail or e mail contact from them in over five years. :?
