ATG “Decades” Franchise League
Summary:. Here’s an opportunity to manage your franchise all the way through the second half of the 20th century. Your top players will come and go as we move through the decades. And every season, you can sign free agents to round out your roster. This league will run five successive seasons. Season one focuses on the 50’s. We’ll move forward ten years, and go up $10MM each successive season, wrapping with the 90’s.
The league will be comprised of 12 of the 16 original franchises.
1. Dodgers
2. Giants
3. Cards
4. Pirates
5. Braves
6. Cubs
7. Phillies
8. Reds
9. Yankees
10. Red Sox
11. White Sox
12. Tigers
13. Indians
14. Athletics
15. Browns/Orioles
16. Senators/Twins
After 12 signup, we’ll run a randomizer for franchise selection.
The Nitty Gritty:. Team eligibility is determined by whether a player played for your team - it is NOT necessary that a player be carded for your team. You can always use any card in the set for your eligible players.
Season one: FOCUS ON THE FIFTIES - $80MM Full ATG Set, No DH, 5% drops
Fill your auto draft roster with players who played for your franchise at any point between 1945 and 1964, and up to 5 eligible free agents.
In order for a player to be eligible as a free agent, he must have played MLB at some point during the focus decade - in this case between 1950 and 1959 - and not be eligible for any of the teams in the league. In other words, he must have played exclusively for one or more of the 4 franchises not selected for the league (and the first expansion teams!) at all points between 1945 and 1964. You can always use any card in the set for qualifying free agents.
Prior to the season one auto draft, we’ll have a one-round free agent claiming draft, in opposite order of the franchise draw. Whoever you pick will be yours, as long as you include him on your auto draft roster, and will count toward your maximum of 5 free agents.
Season two: FOCUS ON THE SIXTIES - $90MM Full ATG Set, No DH, 5% drops
Fill your auto draft roster with players who played for your franchise at any point between 1955 and 1974, and up to 5 eligible free agents.
Claiming Draft: Prior to the season two auto draft, we will have a 2 round free agent/franchise keeper claiming draft. Claiming order begins in reverse of regular season finish, 2nd round is serpentine. With each pick, a team can either declare a franchise keeper from the previous season, or claim a free agent. In order to qualify as a franchise keeper for your team, (1) the player must qualify for your team in the new season per the rule above and (2) the player must have been on your roster the entirety of the previous season. The free agent eligibility rule is identical to the previous season, except the qualifying decade is the sixties. Franchise keepers will be protected, regardless of other teams’ rights, and must be included on the respective team’s auto draft list. Claimed free agents must also be included on your auto draft list.
The claiming draft, and the player eligibility rules, continue in context for all remaining seasons.
Due to expansion, as we progress, there will be more and more teams from which to potentially draw free agents.
Season three: FOCUS ON THE SEVENTIES - $100MM Post WWII ATG Set, DH, 5% drops
Just like the AL, we’ll adopt the DH in the seventies.
Fill your auto draft roster with players who played for your franchise at any point between 1965 and 1984, and up to 5 eligible free agents.
Season four: FOCUS ON THE EIGHTIES - $110MM Post WWII ATG Set, DH, 5% drops
Fill your auto draft roster with players who played your franchise at any point between 1975 and 1994, and up to 5 eligible free agents.
Season five: FOCUS ON THE NINETIES - $120MM Post WWII ATG Set, DH, 5% drops
You’ll be filling your auto draft roster with players who played your franchise at any point between 1985 and 2004, and up to 5 eligible free agents.
Ballparks:. You must always use a post-WW2 franchise park. You can change parks every season if you wish.
Trades:. No trades.
Here’s the franchise selection order. Better lucky than good, I guess!
