PostFri Mar 02, 2018 8:46 am

The 4 man rotation is dead and buried, Time to eliminate the SP^ and price accordingly,

Yeah but there are no days off in a SOM schedule unlike real baseball where the SP get an extra day of rest.

Well in the SOM world at least substitute a SP* for a SP^ in the autodraft instead of the closest priced SP.

Strat could add fake days off throughout the season, like they do between playoffs/finals games.

You’ve got to go back to the source though, that’s an issue with the board game and unless they get rid of it there it won’t disappear in the online game.

Amen!.... Besides there are less of them then ever before... Many pitchers can and do make more than 32 starts. Also , many more could make 40 starts if they wanted to.... This is not an "AS PLAYED" format.

Eliminate the SP* because it's dead and buried? Ok, then you would also be for:

Innings and AB's no more than 5% over their past year's totals, after all, RP's don't pitch 150 innings either, which is less likely to happen than a SP pitching on 3 days rest. I don't understand the outrage over SP*, yet none about RP usage, which is more of a fantasy. SP*s are priced accordingly and you pay a premium for that opportunity. This is a fantasy game, if you wish to play it to match real life baseball, then you really need the 5% rule to be in effect as well. Should Olson be limited to 180 AB's, or are you happy that he could hit 60 plus HR's given the right circumstances? If he was THAT good, he'd have a full time job in MLB. Hazelbaker? Alfaro? Where do you draw the line?

I play offline in leagues with usage limits. Strat could program that into the online game as an option, if there were enough market demand for that.

I have a friend who plays in leagues with the usage limits. He often has to draft players so that he can actually field a team for all 162 based on how many more AB's he needs at a particular position.

Honestly, it doesn't matter much to me if we have SP*s or that Hazelbaker can actually accrue 500 AB's in a season. I'll play within the parameters given to me by SOM online. I'd love SOM to program a usage option, especially in keeper leagues. I understand the SP* argument, but it doesn't go far enough if one is willing to ignore the RP usage, or the "player is horrid in real life, but I can get 500 AB's out of him" strategies that is also involved in SOM online.

ScumbyJr is correct. No MLB team today has anyone pitch every 4th game. Furthermore, in our Strat leagues, a SP* will start 40-41 games. A SP with start 32-33 games. There's no need for simulating more than 33 starts in today's game.

Here were the leaders in Games Started in 2017 (among 30 teams)
GS - number of pitchers
34 - 2 pitchers (Archer, Gausman)
33 - 10 pitchers
32 - 17 pitchers

Here were the leader in Games Started in 1977 (among 26 teams)
GS - number of pitchers
43 - 1 pitcher (knuckler Phil Niekro)
40 - 1 pitcher (Steve Rogers)
39 - 3 pitchers
38 - 3 pitchers
37 - 7 pitchers
