Also relatively new here - ATG 8 is all I have ever known - but a lifelong users of stratomatic board and PC games.
What is looks like to me is that the previous regime genuinely enjoyed the game and so was personally interested in engaging with the community. Otherwise, I have difficulty seeing a legitimate business interest here for them, being far more pessimistic than Tallguy Kevin about the marketing potential here.
The demographics of decline for this game seem straightforward. I am 42 and pretty much guaranteed to be either the youngest or 2nd youngest player in a given league. My generation being the last to grow up in an environment where video games were not mind-boggling in their awesomeness and diversity, I don't think the marketing wizardry exists to get the next cohort of young lads to give this game a look. (Oh, and baseball is largely an afterthought now in the sports world).
I'm very into this game. Too into it (as I write this from my work computer). But I'm emotionally preparing myself for the moment in a few years time when it dies on the vine. I'm less frustrated with the state of the game than desperately hoping it hangs on for as long as possible.
Until then, I'll do my best to be a good and productive member of this community, with the sole exception that I will stubbornly insist on using every exploit allowed by the rules!:)
