18.3 Team Add discussion

PostWed Jun 20, 2018 8:35 pm

It's that time of year again where we add a full team! Last time around (see link below) The Tampa Bay Rays got the nod. The Rockies edged out the Marlins for a not so close 2nd place. So the debate I'd like to foster is do we stick with the somewhat recent 'expansion' clubs or venture down history a bit.

No problem with the Rockies. 2009 team had 92 wins, 2007 had 90 wins

We can swap out those already having cards for other worthy Rockies.

If we go with 2009 we have to swap out Jason Marquis SP, and Iannetta C.

We could swap Iannetta with his 2008 season, with a 878 OPS (best all time for a Rockies catcher with 400 plate appearances)

Thinking of starting pitchers with at least 162 innings pitched, you can swap Marquis for Jhoulys Chacin 2013, who for Coors had a miraculously low Hr/9 ratio. He had a 1.26 whip. When I factor in HRs allowed and a SP who has enough innings to qualify for the ERA title in Colorado history, that would be my pick. Or go with a reliever. Taylor Buchholz 2008 pitched for them the entire year and did very well, with a .95 whip and decent HR allowed in 66 innings.

I'd really like to get another Mike Trout card -- he's the best of this generation, one of the greatest ever to his age, and we have only one card. So, how about the 2016 Angels? https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/LAA/2016.shtml

We can vote Mike Trout in without adding the whole team. I think we should definitely stick with the Rockies, Marlins, or D-Backs for the full team add.

I'd also like to see another Adrian Beltre card -- we only have one card. A future HOFer, one of the best at 3B ever. How about one of his 2010, 2012 or 2013 seasons: https://www.baseball-reference.com/play ... ad01.shtml

appreciate the player inputs but please use this string to discuss the team direction. Once we set a player direction we can unleash those conversations.

2017 Astros. Only World Series winner, hard to currently field a viable team in a franchise league and some great new additions for the rest of us.

I know it's going against the flow and probably won't get much traction, but a 1962 Los Angeles Angels add would be great. We already have Chance and Grba from the team, but it would give us a passle of non* sp/rp (Bo Belinsky, Don Lee, Ken McBride, Ted Bowsfield) and some pretty nice rp only guys (Tom Morgan and Art Fowler) and a nice Leon Wagner and Lee Thomas card and a not so shabby Billy Moran (2b -- finished 13th in MVP voting) and Albie Pearson (5'5", 140 lbs!), not to mention Steve Bilko, Jim Fregosi and Eddie Yost. The '62 team, their second year of existence, finished with 86 wins (their best until 1978) and finished in third place, only ten games behind the almost mythical Yanks.
